The SKUD 18 sailors (pictured above) had already won at the World Cup in Miami in January, and earlier this month were named on their country's London 2012 Paralympic team.

"We put in a good performance two days ago to get on top knowing that this was coming," said Fitzgibbon.

"We knew that we had to be on top on the race course two days ago as the weather was coming in and we were able to execute our plans and come away with the win."

The pair won their title after two points after battling in difficult sailing conditions.

They will be hopeful of carrying this form into London and achieving success at this summer's Paralympics.

They already claimed gold at last year's ISAF World Cup and a bronze medal at the IFDS World Championships, while also claiming the 2011 Australian Sailor the Year with a Disability award.

Tesch is a former wheelchair basketball player who has switched to sailing as she hopes to pick up her fourth Paralympic medal – though the 42-year-old will hope it is her first gold this summer.

Australia has won a gold, silver and bronze since sailing became a Paralympic sport at Sydney 2000, and will be optimistic of adding to that at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Centre from September 1 to 6 this summer.
