Danielle Brown_07-06-12June 7 - British Paralympic archery champion Danielle Brown has told insideworldparasport that her exploits in winning gold at the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games boosted her bid for London 2012 glory.

Brown  (pictured above) won gold in the women's team compound alongside able-bodied athletes Nicky Hunt (pictured below, right) and Nichola Simpson (pictured below, left), edging out Canada.

She was the first ever Paralympian to represent England at the Commonwealth Games, and said she benefited hugely from the experience.

"It was great because one of the things that stood out for me in Beijing was that I have never been in the situation of being on the verge before," she told insideworldparasport.

"I had some issues like with the amount of down time.

"There were a lot of people on the able bodied team who have had so much experience.

"They have been to loads of trips so I learned a lot from them as well.

"It was great to put measures in place so that I effectively did another Games before London, to sort out the things that were not so strong in Beijing."

It is a measure of Brown's attitude that we are talking about her putting things "right" for London compared with Beijing, considering she picked up a gold medal at the Games in the individual compound.

Yet she insists that as it was a new experience for her to go to a Paralympics there was much for her to learn from the event.

"Before Beijing it was all new to me," she said.

"I have been to a few more competitions since Beijing and my national governing body has been fantastic letting me go to able bodied events.

"The more experience I get the more I have been learning.

"I would say I prepared differently but not because it is a home Games just because I have a different way of dealing with national events."

Brown was confirmed as part of the British shooting delegation last month, and she says she never considered not being sent to London.

"The way I have prepared myself was that not getting there was not an option," she explained.

"That is how I focus myself [for the end result].

"So it was a great confirmation that I am in the right place and obviously it is fantastic news being part of the British team, as this is what I have been training really hard for in the last four years."

So focused is Brown, that it is more than half way through our conversation that she reveals that she is suffering from tonsillitis.

When asked, she insists she has continued to train and compete as normal – demonstrating the will that has won her Paralympic and Commonwealth gold.

Next up for Brown is the World Cup event in Ogden, before she goes to the Stoke Mandeville Grand Prix.

Brown insists that this is ideal for her preparation, as in her own words she is "very competition motivated".

"I do not train for the sake of training, always with competition in mind," she added.

"So I really do need that competition all the way through the season to keep me going."

And very soon, she will be ready for the biggest one of all.
