Czech Target_logo_July_22July 22 - Canada's archery team came away from the Czech Target international tournament in Nové Město nad Metují with six medals to signal their intent ahead of London 2012.

Double world champion and Parapan American Games gold medallist Kevin Evans (pictured below) secured two gold medals and led the team in their impressive performance.

They add to the gold medal Evans won at the recent Stoke Mandeville International Invitational event, the birthplace of the Paralympic Games.

His two medals came in the individual open compound and then in the open compound team event, alongside Bob Hudson and Alec Denys.

The team set a world record by scoring 230 points, beating South Korea's previous best set last year, later equalled by Italy.

Evans and Hudson will both be at London 2012 this summer, hoping to take medals home.

Hudson was also on the podium for the individual open compound where he claimed bronze.

The women were also impressive, with Karen van Nest grabbing silver in the open compound, her first podium finish at an international tournament.

She also teamed up with Evans to gather a bronze in the mixed open compound team event.

Norbert Murphy claimed silver in the men's ARW1 compound bow, his second international medal in less than a month after finishing as runner up at Stoke Mandeville.

Murphy will be at his third Paralympics this summer in London.

The Czech event was the last major international competition before the Paralympics.

"I am really pleased with the results here and very proud of this team," said Vladimir Kopecky, the team leader.

"There was a strong and deep field in every category.

"Our athletes faced many of the top competitors that they will each face in London.

"It is definitely a confidence booster for the Paralympic Games."

The last practise for the squad will be the fully integrated Canadian Archery Championships between August 10 and 12, a fortnight before the Paralymipcs.

Also joining Evans, Hudson, van Nest and Murphy in London will be Lyne Tremblay, a two time Paralympian, in the recurve bow, and Rob Cox, the alternate in the open compound bow.
