The key objectives include attracting the best athletes to compete in a technically excellent, world class event and to launch the Commonwealth Games into the next decade with delivery of an inspiring and landmark event.

Gold Coast 2018 have also stated their intention to help Games partners make the most of the opportunities presented by the event, to engage and harness the enthusiasm of various communities and  to contribute to economic growth by working to promote Queensland tourism, trade and investment.

The Organising Committee are also looking to present the Commonwealth Games in a creative way that will encourage comprehensive and positive exposure.

Gold Coast 2018 chairman Nigel Chamier said the vision, mission and objectives are mostly a positive statement depicting the determination that has driven a massive year of planning for the Commonwealth Games.

"We wanted to make a very strong but simple and universally understood statement about what the 2018 Commonwealth Games on Australia's Gold Coast is all about," he said.

"We want to stage a great Games in a great city leaving great memories and great benefits for all.

"That's what we are about and that's what our vision is; it is all about being great.

"In so doing, we are targeting a $2 billion (£1.31 billion/€1.65 billion) economic benefit and the creation of up to 30,000 full time equivalent jobs."

The Gold Coast 2018 vision, mission and objectives have also received Government backing from Queensland's Minister for the Commonwealth Games Jann Stuckey.

"We will conduct a Games that focuses on the athletes, excellent competition and delivery of a fun and friendly event, encompassing humanity, equality and destiny – the values of the Commonwealth Games," said Stuckey.

"Importantly, not only will we deliver a great Games for the athletes, we are also aiming to deliver significant benefits for our partners, the Commonwealth, Gold Coast, Queensland and Australia."

Plans to create the vision, mission and objectives for Gold Coast 2018 have been under consideration since the Australian city won the right to stage the event when it defeated sole rival Hambantota of Sri Lanka by 43 votes to 27 at the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) General Assembly in St Kitts and Nevis last year.

Gold Coast 2018 chief executive Mark Peters, who also played a key role in the bid, said that said planning for the Commonwealth Games is now in full swing following the unveiling of the vision, mission and objectives.

"It is not just about delivering an 11 day event - it is about using the Games to create a decade of opportunity," said Peters.

"Exhaustive planning now by ourselves and all partners will deliver a great Games in 2018 and significant benefits either side of the event.

"We end 2012 having accomplished a great deal since winning the right to the Games just 13 months ago.

"We have great community support and everything is on track for a great Games in 2018."

Gold Coast 2018 will be staged from the April 4 until15 while it will mark the fifth time Australia has hosted the Commonwealth Games as they have previously staged it in 1938, 1962, 1982 and 2006.
