Anna Turney of Great BritainDecember 21 - Paralympic mono-skier Anna Turney of Great Britain has received a £20,000 ($32,000/€25,000) sponsorship boost to help her on her way to her Sochi 2014 dream.

The sponsorship from health supplement giant MacuVision Europe means that the 33-year-old from Warwick, who finished sixth in the 2010 Winter Games, can continue to train and compete with Team GB to strive to gain the vital points she needs to qualify for the Games in two years time.

"This sponsorship is brilliant," said Turney.

"It will make a massive difference to my training and performance.

"My training really was under threat; never knowing where the next money would come from.

"But now I don't need to think about it and can focus on getting that medal in Russia.

"It really will affect my performance."

Turney was one of Great Britain's top snowboarders before an accident in Japan left her a paralysed.

Yet just a few years later, following some inspirational words of wisdom from world champion and fellow Paralympic mono-Skier, Stacey Kohut, Turney was back on the slopes to later be picked by the Team GB development squad.

Through her journey Turney has often been hit with financial restraints hindering her success but now - six years since her accident – she may have received the sponsorship she needs to set her on her way to bring the medals home for her nation.

"I'm in the squad," said Turney.

"Now I just need to secure my place and hopefully win a medal.

"That would be the icing on the cake.

"I love it more than anything, mono-skiing gives me the same adrenalin buzz that snowboarding did.

"It's scary and exciting to be going downhill at 70 miles an hour."

MacuVision Europe is the company behind health supplement Macu-Shield which is a food supplement to help protect against age-related macular degeneration – a condition Turney's father suffers with.
