Miguel CarballedaJanuary 26 - Miguel Carballeda has been unanimously re-elected to serve a third four-year term as President of the Spanish National Paralympic Committee.

Carballeda has been President since first being elected in December 2004 and during his first term; he helped launch the Paralympic ADO Plan (ADOP), marking an improvement in relations and the public's image of the organisation.

Following his re-election in December 2008, the Plan was consolidated and there was a significant increase in the social diffusion of the Paralympic Movement in Spain.

Following his re-election for a third term, Carballeda feels that the Spanish National Paralympic Committee must consolidate their work and continue to create more opportunities for people to get involved in disability sport.

"We need to continue and further the integration process between Paralympic and Olympic sport federations," he said.

"We must also push hard for unity across the Paralympic Movement in Spain in order to succeed in our current economy and to manage our resources effectively."

Carballeda's re-election will also serve as a boost to Madrid's bid for the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, has he is part of the team looking to secure the Games for the Spanish capital.

Madrid are currently bidding against Istanbul in Turkey and Tokyo in Japan for the right to stage the Games with the winner due to be announced at the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session in Buenos Aires on September 7.
