The indoor meet in Glasgow has been staged in the city since 1988 and as well as disability events appearing for the first time in the competition's 25 year history, the brand new £113 million ($177 million/€144 million) Emirates Arena made its debut as the host venue following the move from Glasgow's Kelvin Hall International Sports Arena.

The star performance came from Paralympic silver-medallist Stef Reid, who took victory in the long jump F44 a best leap of 4.90 metres to hold off Japan's Maya Nakanishi, who finished in second place with a best of 4.78m.

"I absolutely loved it," said Reid.

"I haven't done anything since the London Paralympics.

"Nothing compares to the thrill you get from competing here and the high you get.

"It was really different competing indoors, it's quite intimate and it's nice.

"It was a bit crazy, a different experience but I absolutely loved it."

Three members of the British Paralympic gold medal-winning 4x100m T37 relay team contested the 60m T37 with Katrina Hart coming out on top with a fine victory in 9.00sec.

Follow Paralympic relay champion Olivia Breen was second in 9.12 while Jenny McLoughlin, another member of the victorious London 2012 quartet, was fourth in 9.25.

"I ran last week and I knew I was in good shape and this week it came together really well so it was nice to run well again," said Hart.

"It's brilliant for disability events to be here, the crowd was awesome.

In the men's 60m T46, Paralympic bronze-medallist Ola Abidogun stormed to an impressive victory in a personal best of 7.26 to force Japan's Tomoki Tagawa into second while fellow Briton Kyle Powell finished sixth.


"I'm not a big 60m fan but I think I'm starting to come to like it a lot more as I get older and I feel a lot more confident," said Abidogun.

"That was my first race of the season and it blew away the cobwebs, he said afterwards."

Elsewhere, Paralympic silver-medallist Libby Clegg finished third behind Brazil's Terezinha Guilhermina in the 60m T11/12 in her debut indoor competition as the 22-year-old clocked 8.37 to the victor's 8.17.

"I was a bit nervous because I've not ran on my own for a long time but these things happen and in future I need to be a little bit more prepared and maybe make sure I've got a backup that's more available," said Clegg.

"It's just one of those things.

"But it was fantastic to compete in front of a Scottish crowd; it was great that everyone came out to support us.

"We don't get this many people attending any Paralympic events, apart from at the Games, so it's great to compete in front of a big crowd."
