Nick Turner head and shouldersJanuary 27 - Nick Turner has been appointed as the new high performance manager for Irish Eventing.

He replaces another Briton, Ginny Elliott, who had guided Ireland to fifth place at the London 2012 Olympics.

She had originally applied for another term in the role but withdrew late in the process.

Turner is a Fellow of the British Horse Society (FBHS) and was an accomplished eventer who completed in 13 four-star events, including Badminton, Burghley, Bramham and Blenheim, until his retirement in 2008.

He had been the team manager and coach of the Brazilian eventing team since 2009, acting as as Chef d'Equipe at the 2010 World Equestrian Games and London 2012.

"I am looking forward to working with the riders to build on their performances to date and on the work done over the past four years," said Turner.

Horse Sport Ireland chairman Joe Walsh claimed Turner had been the outstanding choice for the role.

"There were many excellent candidates for this role," he said.

"Nick's experience and his plans for the Irish eventing team really made a big impression on the panel and I have no doubt but that he will do an excellent job."
