In the first game of the day, Bernhard Hering opened the scoring after just 11 seconds to put Germany ahead, and things didn't get any better for the Slovakians as the game went on.

Bas Disveld hit two goals and team-mates Torsten Ellmer, Udo Segreff, Felix Schrader and Frank Rennhack all netted to give Germany a convincing 7-0 win to put themselves top of the group following their 7-2 win over Estonia yesterday.

After their 11-0 win over Poland on the opening day, Japan may have been anticipating an easy ride against Great Britain, but the host nation were certainly made to fight for their victory.

After a goalless first period, Satoru Sudo opened the scoring for Japan during a power play, and Eiji Misawa successfully converted following an assist from Sudo, who scored twice and made two assists yesterday, to give Japan a 2-0 lead going into the final period.

Great Britain were down but not out, and when Steve Thomas scored to make it 2-1, GB had their eyes on an equaliser.

But Tomohiko Maruo had other ideas, adding to the goal he scored yesterday to seal the win for Japan and continue their 100 per cent start in the tournament to book their place in the semi-finals on Friday (March 15).

Japan and Germany have a well-earned rest day tomorrow as Estonia face Slovakia in the first game at 2pm local time (5AM GMT), and Great Britain take on Poland at 5.30pm local time (8.30AM GMT).
