Olympic Park legacyMarch 27 - Loughborough University are set to establish a new academic campus on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, which is due to open in 2015.

The new campus will be part of iCITY, who last year won the bid to take over the London 2012 Main Press Centre (MPC) and International Broadcast Centre (IBC) on the site.

The £8 million ($12 million/€9.5 million) facility will be for postgraduates while it aims to attract students from both the UK and overseas.

"Our presence in London will enable us to diversify and expand the high quality education we offer to both postgraduate students and those looking to advance their professional development," said Vice Chancellor and President of Loughborough University Professor Robert Allison.

"Loughborough also has a long history of working in partnership with business to drive forward research and innovation for the benefit of society and the economy.

"Our London site will allow us to connect with many more organisations to enhance our research and enterprise activity, thereby delivering greater benefit to even more communities."

Loughborough University itself is based in Leicestershire in the East Midlands of England.

It is among Britain's leading universities and is consistently ranked among the top 20 in the UK.

It has been a university since 1966, but the institution dates back to 1909, when the then Loughborough Technical Institute began with a focus on skills and knowledge which would be directly applicable in the wider world.

The facility is particularly noted for its sports-related courses and achievements while it served as the official preparation camp for Team GB ahead of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
