149607072April 12 - British Weight Lifting (BWL) have stepped up their recruitment plans, announcing a series of open talent assessment days for 13 to 23-years-old's in search of the next crop of Olympic competitors.

Young people are invited to take part in one of a series of events being staged during May and June, which the BWL hope could be a stepping stone to competing in international competition.

The BWL ran a similar scheme last year in association with UK Sport, called UK Sport Power2Podium, which unearthed six athletes that were subsequently selected to be a part of the BWL Talent Programme, giving them the opportunity to receive elite coaching and train alongside the best weight lifters in the country.

BWL Performance Officer Dan Wagner said: "Having seen the fantastic results of the last talent scheme, I'm really excited to see what results we can get from this latest initiative."

Selection for the BWL Talent Programme ensures elite coaching and support, as well as an elite athlete education programme, strength and conditioning training, expert technical coaching and the opportunity to train with the BWL performance programme athletes.

Assessment days will be held at:

Leeds Met University – (North) -  May 18

Oldbury Academy- (Central/South West/Wales) – May 19
