The contracts for the hosting rights for the events were completed at the 2013 Annual Delegates' Meeting in Bratislava, where Badminton Europe President and a seemingly shoe-in for the International Badminton Federation Presidency race, Poul-Erik Høyer, signed the deals along with Andrey Antropov, chairman of the Council of National Badminton Federation of Russia, and Lawrence Chew, chief executive of Swiss Badminton.

It was agreed that the 2014 European Men's and Women's Team Championships would take place in Basel from February 11 until 16, and the 2014 inaugural European Under-15 Championships will be held alongside the event from February 14 until 16 at the St. Jakobshalle in the city.

Kazan had been lobbying to host the European Championships as a legacy to the Universiade, which takes place in the Russian city in July this year, and Antropov believes the high standard of the facilities for the Games secured them the rights to host the flagship event.

"We've been entrusted with the most prestigious European competition," he said.

"The city was chosen after colleagues from Badminton Europe inspected the facilities for the Universiade and discovered the fast pace of badminton development in the Tatarstan capital,"
