Bob PriceApril 30 - Bob Price has stepped down as President of the International Federation for Sport for Athletes with an Intellectual Disability (Inas).

The Briton has completed the maximum two three-year terms in office during which he oversaw the successful re-inclusion of athletes with an intellectual disability into the Paralympic Games after they were axed in 2000 following a scandal involving Spain's basketball team.

Price was previously chairman of the British Paralympic Association, President of the European Paralympic Committee and Chef De Mission of Britain's team to five Paralympic Games.

Price was first elected as President of Inas in 2007 and set about the task of building a collaboration between Inas and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).

A joint Inas/IPC working group was soon established which, supported by a team of researchers from universities in Europe and North America, developed a system of classification which brought about a decision in 2009 to re-instate competition for athletes with an intellectual disability in time for London 2012.

A total of 120 athletes went on to compete at London in athletics, swimming and table tennis.

"Your leadership has contributed so much, in particular our work on the inclusion of athletes with an intellectual impairment in the Games where your vision was key to the success," said Xavier Gonzalez, chief executive of the IPC.
