2013 Alpine FIS Ski World ChampionshipsMay 9 - Almaty in Kazakhstan, Oberstdorf in Germany, Planica in Slovenia and Seefeld in Austria have submitted bids for the 2019 Nordic World Championships, and Ǻre in Sweden and Cortina d'Ampezzo in Italy for the Alpine World Championships in the same year, the International Ski Federation (FIS) has confirmed.

FIS President Gian Franco Kasper welcomed the news and explained that the 2013 Nordic and alpine events, which took place in Val di Fiemme, Italy and Schladming, Austria (pictured top) respectively, have set a good example for future hosts of the flagship competitions.

"FIS is happy to see that our highlight events continue to attract great interest by top organisers in several nations," he said.

"The success of our 2013 events has provided a high level benchmark for these candidates to develop their event concepts."

The six candidates now have until September 1 this year to submit a detailed event concept – including plans for sports organisation, accommodation, transportation, logistics, security, media, communications, marketing, ceremonies, environment and spectator services.

Members of the FIS Inspection Group will then review the dossiers together with the candidates at the FIS Technical Committee meetings in Zurich, Switzerland early in October 2013.

The candidates will have the chance to make a final bid presentation to the FIS Council and the Technical Committees at the world governing body's 49th Congress in Barcelona, Spain next year, with the decision about the hosts of the events to be announced on June 5, 2014.

The next FIS Nordic World Championships will take place in Falun, Sweden in 2015 and Lahti, Finland in 2017, while the alpine equivalents head to Colorado, United States and St Moritz, Switzerland, also in 2015 and 2017 respectively.

Applications for the 2019 FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championships remain open.
