Competing in the fourth World Cup event in the 2013 UIPM World Cup, the 22-year-old produced a gritty performance that saw him get off to a slow start by finishing down in 24th place after the fencing.

But the world number 40 was the fastest in the pool and then secured a maximum 1,200 points in the ride to go into the final run/shoot event in first.

From there, Cooke never looked back and a blistering time of 11min 18.75sec in the final event saw him claim victory with 5,872 points.

The highlight of the final event saw Cooke claim a world record in the shooting as he proved near-flawless with his pistol.

In four rounds his accuracy was at 83 per cent as he only needed 24 shots to find the target 20 times.

Hungary's London 2012 Olympic bronze medallist Adam Marosi took silver with 5,832 points while Jean Maxence Berrou of France claimed bronze with 5,768 points.

"This was my first World Cup medal, so I'm so happy," Cooke said following the win.

"I never thought I would do this after the fencing this morning, but I had a good swim, a good ride and a good combined.

"My shooting was definitely the key today.

"Adam [Marosi] was awesome all day and I was definitely scared with him behind me at the end.

"I just ran as fast as I could."

Cooke also received special praise from Pentathlon GB performance director Jan Bartu.

"This was a fantastic conclusion to the four World Cups this year and a good start to the Rio [2016] Olympic cycle for us," said Bartu.

"It was an amazing performance by Jamie and a massive milestone for Pentathlon GB.

"It was the hardest World Cup this year, all the top athletes were competing here, but it all came together for Jamie."
