The 46-year-old Welshman Davies defeated Swiss Silvio Keller in his semi-final, which put him up against Andrea Borgato of Italy in the final, after he beat world number one in the class, Andreas Vevera, in the other semi-final.

Despite Davies having opportunities to win the final, Borgato was the more clinical of the two players and triumphed by a score of 3-1 to clinch gold.

Elsewhere, in class 7, world number one Will Bayley had to settle for bronze after winning gold at his last two events when he was defeated by world number three Maxym Nikulenko in three sets in the semi-final.

But the 25-year-old Paralympic silver medallist has insisted that he will learn from his defeat and come back stronger for the upcoming European Championships in Lignano, where he won gold at the Masters event earlier in the year.

"I was definitely nervous today," he admitted.

"I really wanted to win three tournaments in a row and maybe I put too much pressure on myself.

"I don't think I played badly but when the games got tight I couldn't win the big points.

"But I have to take this defeat and learn from it.

"I will use it as extra motivation to train even harder over the next few weeks before the European Championships in September."

Promising teenager Jack Hunter-Spivey was on form in Bratislava and secured the biggest scalp of his career to date when he took down Serbian world number four Mitar Palikuca from behind in the quarter-finals after successfully navigating the group stages; which all five British representatives in Slovenia managed.

The world number 26 lost in his semi-final to Ali Ozturk of Turkey, but certainly built a platform for September's European Championships in claiming an impressive bronze medal.

All five of the British representatives in Slovenia are due to compete in the team event on Saturday (May 25).
