President Kim UN SG Ban21111June 6 - Pyeongchang 2018 President Kim Jin-sun has met with United Nations (UN) secretary general Ban Ki-moon to discuss means of cooperation to ensure a successful Winter Olympics and Paralympics.

The meeting at the UN Headquarters in New York City saw numerous issues discussed, such as the importance of promoting the Olympic Movement on a global scale, to the UN's position on a peaceful resolution to the nuclear threat posed by North Korea, which both Kim and Ban saw eye-to-eye on in terms of the need for extensive support from the UN.

The meeting followed Kim's attendance at the 3rd International Forum on Sport for Peace and Development, an event largely organised by the UN Office on Sport for Development and Peace (UNOSDP), along with the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Kim also made an appearance at the International Olympic Truce Foundation (IOTF) during his trip to New York, in which he made a presentation and spoke of how Pyeongchang 2018will contribute positively in efforts to bring peace to the Korean Peninsula and the world.

Also in attendance at the meeting was North Korean IOC member Chang Ung, whose membership to the Board is deemed by the IOTF as promoting the objectives of the Foundation.
