Evento Renault 21June 7 - Madrid 2020 have further emphasised their desire for a zero carbon emissions Games in partnership with car manufacturers Renault, who have donated four of their electric ZOE cars to the bid .

All vehicles at the potential Madrid Olympic Village will be electric-powered, and the power will be harnessed from solar panels which will be located in surrounding areas.

Madrid 2020 bid President and Spanish Olympic Committee Preisdent Alejandro Blanco was present along with Mayor of Madrid Ana Botella at a presentation of the cars in the Galeria de Cibeles.

Botella said that she's "delighted that the bid is joining the green fleet" and further expanding their promises for an environmentally-friendly Games.

"With its commitment to zero carbon emissions, Madrid 2020 is going to be a model in environmental terms." she said.

"Going for the Olympic and Paralympic Games is something we are doing for ourselves, for our economy, our image on the world stage, and to show that we are up to any challenge, in terms of infrastructure, planning or organisation.

"Madrid is prepared to host the Games and use them to boost the economy, to stimulate growth and bring young people into the labour market."

Blanco added that the bid was committed to "changing things so that Madrid and Spain as a whole becomes a global benchmark, particularly with regards to its model for organising the Olympic Games.”

Madrid CityCouncil have heavily promoted and endorsed the use of electric cars and more environmentally friendly modes of transport, and have reduced tax on electric cars by 75 percent, as well as discouraging the use of cars within the city centre, in line with the Air Quality Plan.

Recharge points have also been incorporated throughout the city and electric minibuses have been incorporated into the municipal transport fleet.

Renault Spain Director José Vicente de los Mozos reaffirmed the company’s commitment to the Madrid 2020 bid, and hailed the bid as the "greenest Olympic project in years".
