Clyde has already had a series of adventures in his role as official Commonweatlh Games mascot, from entertaining the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to visiting events and meeting thousands of people from across the land.

And after days of previews of the new "Cuddly Clydes" on the mascot's official Twitter page, @Clyde2014, Commonwealth Games fans can now get their hands on their own version of the popular creation.

Glasgow 2014 are expected high demand for the toys, which are available in a smaller 15 centimetres tall Clyde, which will retail at £8 ($12/€9.50) and a larger 25cm version at £13 ($20/€15).

An even larger version of Clyde will be available next year as the Games draw nearer.

Glasgow 2014 deputy chief executive Ty Speer said: "Clyde has been very warmly received across the length and breadth of Scotland and has certainly brought his cheeky personality to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

"The launch of our Cuddly Clyde soft toys has been much anticipated and is a great opportunity for people to show their support for the Games.

"As we continue our journey to Games time, we'll be expanding our current range of merchandise with more to come later this year and next."

Clyde's creator, schoolgirl Beth Gilmour, was the first person to be presented with a Cuddly Clyde, and she was delighted with how her creation had come to life.


"Seeing Clyde always makes me smile and I think the soft toys are absolutely adorable," she said.

"It's great that I now have a real reminder of Clyde to keep at home and see every day.

"He's so cheeky and I hope lots of people will now be able to enjoy having their very own Clyde too."

The toys can be bought via the Glasgow 2014 shop, and will eventually be available at Glasgow Life museums, Visit Scotland outlets and World Duty Free shops at Glasgow and Edinburgh airports.
