The men and women's teams will use the University of Worcester to prepare for major events, including next month's European Championships in Germany, next year's World Championships in Canada and the 2016 Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro.

They will use the University's facilities, including the new Worcester Arena on Hylton Road which has been specially designed to host disability sport.

To mark the partnership, next week Britain's men will take part in an international wheelchair basketball tournament at the venue along with Spain, Germany and Paralympic champions Canada.

Known as Continental Clash Two, the action is due to begin on Monday (June 10) and culminates in a battle between Canada and Britain next Thursday (June 13).

"This provides a great opportunity for the people of our region to show their support for wheelchair basketball and for the GB team who have chosen Worcester as their base," said Mick Donovan, head of the University of Worcester's Institute of Sport and Exercise Science.

"We can really get behind them for this prestigious event and make it feel like a real 'home' venue."
