Richard Browne1June 18 - US Paralympics have named the majority of their track and field stars from London 2012 in their squad for the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) World Championships in Lyon next month, including T44 100 metres silver medallist Richard Browne, who recently equalled the world record in the event.

Browne has been embroiled in a war of words with the man who finished ahead of him in London, Britain's Jonnie Peacock, in the build up to the World Championships, but after Brazil's Alan Oliveira smashed the T43 world record in Berlin last weekend, Browne will certainly have his work cut out to claim the world title at the Championships which are due to take place between July 19 and 28.

The squad features 15 of the 18 Americans that won medals in track and field at London 2012, also including P44 discus gold medallist Jeremy Campbell and T54 wheelchair racer Tatyana McFadden, who won the 400m, 800m and 1500m events in Britain last summer.

Also included is T44 sprinter David Prince, who broke two world record in the 200m and 400m events at the US Paralympics Track and Field National Championships in San Antonio, Texas, last weekend.

"Over the weekend at the National Championships, there were some incredible performances that we hope will translate to medals in Lyon," said Cathy Sellers, high performance director for US Paralympics track and field.

"While we have come to expect great things from athletes like Tatyana McFadden, who won her six events, or David Prince, who set two world records, there were a lot of newcomers who caught our attention.

"It is an exciting time for US Paralympics track and field.

"With the leadership of our veterans combined with the eagerness of our rookies, I know there will be no shortage of highlights at the world championships."

Ten US Armed Forces veterans feature in the squad along with two serving members, showing the success of the US Paralympics link-up with the US Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defence, which provides thousands of opportunities for veterans and service members with physical disabilities to compete in Paralympic sport at recreational, intermediate and elite levels.
