BPA logoJuly 2 - The British Paralympic Association (BPA) has launched a search for a classification manager ahead of the Sochi 2014 and Rio 2016 Paralympics.

The role, which will ensure the development of national sport-specific and disability-specific classification frameworks, has been created in line with the BPA's ambition "to be a leading nation in classification".

The manager will also work with national governing bodies and UK Sport's international influence team to minimise the risk of adverse classification decisions not only at Paralympic Games but also at other major championships during the cycle.

"This is an exciting and unique opportunity for someone who has a real passion for disability sport," BPA director of sport Penny Briscoe, who will oversee the role, said.

"We are looking for an individual who has wide knowledge and understanding of the structure of high performance sport.

"The successful candidate may not have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of national and international classification policy, practices and procedures at this stage, but we are certainly looking for someone who has operated at a high level in sport and has the ability to build key relationships and influence both thinking and policy.

"Classification is vitally important to the work that we do as it provides the foundation for fair and equal competition in Paralympic sport.

"This role will be crucial not only at a Paralympic Games but also in the build-up to competition, providing both athletes and sports with a comprehensive classification framework.

"I look forward to welcoming a new member to our team."

The closing date for applications is July 5, with interviews scheduled for the week commencing July 15.
