September 20 - Billy Demong is among nine Team Citi athletes for Sochi 2014Official Team USA sponsor, Citi has today unveiled the nine athletes that will form Team Citi for the Sochi 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

The six Olympic and three Paralympic athletes have 15 Games' medals between them and according to global banking firm Citi, they were selected because they embody the spirit and mission of Citi's Team USA sponsorship programme and are dedicated to inspiring the next generation of athletes.

The nine athletes are Julie Chu, Billy Demong, Erin Hamlin, Dan Jansen, Ted Ligety, Evan Lysacek and Paralympians Alana Nichols, Rico Roman and Picabo Street.

"We are extremely proud to welcome such an inspiring group of US Olympic and Paralympic athletes to Team Citi," said Citi chief executive, Michael Corbat.

"Each of their journeys from ambition to achievement is unique yet they share an unwavering commitment to competitive excellence.

"It is a commitment that inspires us as we serve our clients and enable progress in communities across the country."

Five of the athletes selected by Citi, which has been an official sponsor of Team USA since the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, have bagged gold medals at passed Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Ski jumper Demong won gold in the large hill individual at Vancouver 2010 where he also picked up a silver in the nordic combined team event, while Lysacek is a figure skating gold medallist from 2010 also.

Nichols came away from Vancouver with two Paralympic golds in the women's downhill sitting and giant slalom sitting events, as well silver in the super-G sitting and super combined sitting competitions.

The 30-year-old from New Mexico also claimed a wheelchair basketball gold at Beijing 2008.

Another double-Games' medallist Street, who won Paralympic gold in the women's super-G event at Nagano 1998 and silver in the downhill competition at Lillehammer 1994, joins Olympic 1000 metre speed skating gold medallist Dan Jansen as the two members of the Citi team who have retired from top-level competition.

Turin 2006 combined alpine skiing Olympic champion Ligety and double Olympic women's hockey silver medal winner Chu complete the list of medal winners and they are joined by four-time Olympic luge competitor Hamlin and ice sled hockey player Roman, who will be hoping to make his Paralympic debut in Sochi next year.
