Infostrada Sports will deliver the official Glasgow 2014 news serviceSeptember 19 - Glasgow 2014 has named Infostrada Sports as the official news service provider for next year's Commonwealth Games.

The Dutch firm, which operated in similar roles at Delhi 2010 and the Beijing 2008 Olympics, will supply global media with results from the 261 media events at Glasgow 2014, biographies of more than 4,500 athletes and historical data spanning 80 years of Commonwealth Games history via the "GamesINFO" information system.

It will also feed athlete quotes, news items and facts to the anticipated 4,000 accredited broadcast and print media reporting on the Games at the Main Press Centre or from the 14 venues.

"The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games will create a myriad of memorable moments, from records being broken to the highs and lows of athletes involved in world-class competition," Glasgow 2014 deputy chief executive Ty Speer said.

"A Games News Service is an essential tool for those reporting on the Games to have the best and most accurate information at their fingertips.

"Infostrada as a strong track record of delivering a high standard of service at previous Commonwealth and Olympic Games and I'm delighted to have them on board."

Infostrada Sports, which also provided all the biographies and background data for the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games, expects to employ more than 75 media and journalism professionals, as well as a number of volunteers, during Glasgow 2014 to deliver the huge volume of content that will be created during event.

Infostrada Sports chief executive Danny Menken spoke of his pride in being chosen to work with Glasgow 2014 and of being involved in a third Commonwealth Games.

"We have now been selected for one of the premium events on the sporting calendar, with Glasgow being our third involvement at a Commonwealth Games," he added.

"We consistently show that we have the skills, expertise and experience to deliver first class content and are proud that Glasgow 2014 has chosen us for the task ahead.

"Over the last 15 years we have developed a significant results and common data platform for more than 300 sports.

"We have been collating and validating results and athlete biographical information, which has then been made available to more than 60 major event organisers."
