October 21 - Michelle Wie has been unveilied as an official Ambassador for the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic GamesUnited States golfer Michelle Wie has been officially unveiled today as a Nanjing 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games Ambassador with just under 300 days to go until the start of the second ever staging of the Games.


The 24-year-old from Hawaii, who turned professional at the age of 16 and has two Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour wins to her name, is set to feature in a series of exclusive videos explaining to aspiring young golfers what it takes to make it at the top-level of the game and offering advice to future players, ahead of golf's debut at the the Youth Olympics next year.

"I feel so honoured to be part of the Youth Olympic Games," said the Stanford University graduate, who, at aged 10, became the youngest player to qualify for a United States Golf Association tournament in 2000.

"I'm hoping to teach young people to have fun with their game, to be competitive, to really want something and to realise the importance of having a dream.

"I think it's really important to inspire young people to take up sport; it's important to be active and be outdoors.

"I remember my childhood, playing different sports and rarely being indoors."

The golfing competition in Nanjing will provide a precursor to the sport's return to the full Olympic programme at Rio 2016 after an absence of more than a century following its last appearance at the St Louis Games in 1904.

Wie, whose best finish at a major was second at the 2005 LPGA Championship at Bulle Rock in Maryland, is excited by the prospect of competing for an Olympic medal in 2016 and revealed that making the American team is one of her major goals over the next three years.

"I went to the London Olympic Games last year and that really got me inspired," said the three-time Solheim Cup player.

"It really got me motivated and I'm going do everything I can.

"It's one of my biggest focuses, making the American team for Rio."

The 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympic Games run from August 16 to 28 next year.
