Peter Adam Crook will be the first British Virgin Islands athlete to compete at a Winter Olympics since Erroll Fraser in 1984October 22 - The British Virgin Islands will be represented at its first Winter Olympics in 30 years when halfpipe skier Peter Adam Crook competes at Sochi 2014.

The Caribbean nation, which has a population of less than 28,000, has only ever appeared at one Winter Games to date.

That was when speed skater Erroll Fraser took part in Sarajevo 1984, but all this will now change as Crook placed in the top 30 at an international event and earned enough points to qualify for next year's Olympics in Russia.

"It sounds a bit strange: it is a Winter Olympic Games," British Virgin Island Olympic Committee (BVIOC) President Ephraim Penn said.

"But it is true, we are going to the Winter Olympic Games.

"We do have a very competent and competitive athlete."

Penn added that Crook is not just going to the Olympics on a "universal entry".

"He has earned the right to be competing with everybody else," he said.

"Peter has worked extremely hard to get where he is today.

"He is a legitimate qualifier.

"He is very competitive and he is very good."
