Swimming Australia President John Bertrand claimed that the BHP Billiton Aquatic Super Series will continue to build on the international swimming stage and to have two new teams of such class in only its second year, is a real step forward for the event.

"Both Brazil and Japan are preparing to host the Olympic Games in {Rio] 2016 and [Tokyo] 2020 and to have them commit to this fantastic event is a real show of strength for the sport and its ability to attract world class competition to Australia," said Bertrand.

"Perth has a proud history of hosting successful international swimming events, including the 1991 and 1998 world championships at Challenge Stadium, and we know the people of Western Australia love to support the green and gold.

"Swimming is of national importance to Australia and as the only annual swim meet where the Australian swim team competes on home soil, we see the BHP Billiton Aquatic Super Series as a key element in promoting the sport at both the elite and grass roots level."

The Australian team dominated the Series last year winning 15 of the 20 events on day two

The two day event also sees teams from Croatia and China face off against the Australian men's and women's water polo teams.

Croatia's Olympic winning team will be up against the Australian men's team whilst the Aussie Stingers, the Australian women's silver medallists, will be up against China's women's team.
