The two-day event will take place in Berlin's Max-Schmeling-Hall – which has a capacity of 9,000 - with semi-finals and finals due to be held on May 17 and 18.

Bids from Meshkov Brest, London GD, AEK Athens, Montpellier Agglomération HB, and the Luxembourgish Handball Federation and Stuttgart were also considered by the EHF.

"We are very happy to have been chosen to organise the 2014 EHF Cup Finals in Berlin, having already shown the EHF during our matches last season in the VELUX EHF Champions League that we can be a good host," said Füchse Berlin manager Bob Hanning.

The draw for the Cup's group phase is due to be held on Friday (December 6) in Vienna and will see Füchse Berlin drawn alongside 15 other teams.

The EHF Cup, which was re-launched last year with the Cup Winners' Cup merging with the old EHF Cup, is the second tier of top-class European handball competition after the VELUX EHF Champions League.

The Cup is played with a qualification phase, group phase, quarter-finals and final tournament and saw German team Rhein Neckar Löwen take the inaugural title in last season's Finals earlier this year.

This result continued Germany's dominance of the event which had seen a German team win the Cup on nine consecutive occasions leading up to its re-launch.

Füchse Berlin will follow in the footsteps of French city Nantes, which hosted the event last season.

"Handball's profile in Berlin has grown significantly in recent years, and after the EHF Cup Finals' highly successful premiere in Nantes last season, I am confident that the German capital is the right choice for the second edition of this top-class club event," said EHF President Jean Brihault.
