Russia is also considering a bid for the 2016 IAAF World Junior Championships, probably in Kazan, which hosted this year's Summer Universiade, Mutko also claimed.

The Diamond League, the IAAF's flagship series of meetings was launched in 2010 and next year will be made up of 14 meetings in 11 countries, with Britain, Switzerland and the United States all hosting two events each.

The World Junior Championships is a biannual event launched in 1986.

The last Championships were held last year in Barcelona with the next edition due to take place in 2014 in Eugene in the United States.

The Russians have claimed that the World Championships in Moscow were a success despite failing to keep promises that the Luzhniki Stadium would be full for every session.

"I agree that we need to consolidate the results of the IAAF World Championships held in Moscow this summer and for this we need to get a Diamond League stage to Moscow but this is not that easy," Mutko said in the Russian capital today.

"If we succeed and get the right to organise the Diamond League competition in Moscow, we can think about the reconstructed Luzhniki Stadium as the competition venue.

"Now we are also discussing the application to stage the IAAF World Junior Championships 2016."
