The Swedes will be looking to add an Olympic gold to the World Championship title they picked up in May and name a squad brewing with both youth and experience.

It roster sees six returning players from the squad that won it all in Turin in 2006 with four-time Olympian Daniel Alfredsson making a  surprise appearance on the Swedish frontline.

The 41-year-old has had a highly successful career at both national and international level and holds the Ottawa Senators' records for goals, assists, and points with 1,178 games played.

He now plays his hockey in Detroit having signed for the Red Wings ahead of the 2013-2014 season.

Henrik Lundqvist, Niklas Kronwall, Daniel and Henrik Sedin, and Henrik Zetterberg also return to the squad having won gold with Sweden in the 2006 Olympic Games with Red Wings captain Zetterberg given the nod to lead the team by head coach Mårts Pär.

"He's captain over there [in Detroit] and is the kind of guy who helps others succeed and has succeeded himself," said Pär.

Jimmie Ericsson was one of 14 forwards named and the only member of the 25-man squad not plying his trade in the NHL.

His younger brother, Detroit Red Wings defenceman Jonathan, was also included.

In addition to those who competed in Turin, Jonas Gustavsson, Henrik Tallinder, Johnny Oduya, Nicklas Bäckstrom, Loui Eriksson, and Johan Franzén return from the team that finished fifth in Vancouver in 2010.

Two of the Olympic rookies that could make a big impact will be Gabriel Landeskog of the Colorado Avalanche and Erik Karlsson of the Ottawa Senators, both of whom are having excellent seasons with their respective clubs.

Olympic debutant Alexander Edler wil miss Sweden's first two games of the Games having picked up a suspension at the International Ice Hockey Federation's (IIHF) World Championships causing him to miss the gold medal match with Switzerland.

Having won last year's World Championships, Sweden will travel to Sochi as the number one ranked team in the world and look to win their third Olympic gold medal.

They are the only team to have won both the World Championships and Olympic title in a single year having taken each title in 2006.

The Swedes are due to start the tournament on February 12 against the Czech Republic, who will be captained by 41-year-old Jaromir Jagr, and also face Latvia and Switzerland, whom they beat in the world championship final in Stockholm in May, in Group C.
