Borut Maček has returned to coach the Iranian handball team ahead of their World Championship debut ©Getty ImagesMarch 6 - Borut Maček has returned to the Iranian handball set up as coach of the team after reaching an agreement with the sport's national federation.

This will be the Slovenian's second time in charge of the squad after having previously led them to a silver medal at the 2010 Asian Games in the Chinese city of Guangzhou.

He returns as Iran, which took bronze at last month's Asian Men's Handball Championship in Bahrain, is preparing for its first World Handball Championship appearance at the 2015 edition, which is due to be held in Qatar from January 17 to February 1.

There the team will face 23 other squads - including the likes of hosts Qatar and defending world champions Spain, as well as European and Olympic champions France and African champions Algeria - looking to take the world title.

Maček is due begin his role as coach next month.
