The 20-year-old polled the most votes in a week-long ballot ahead of fellow Alpine skier Anna Schaffelhuber of Germany, Dutch snowboarder Bibian Mentel-Spee and Russian Nordic skiers Elena Remizova and Alena Kaufman.

Competing in her second Games, Bochet bagged four gold medals when she topped the podium in the downhill, giant slalom, super-combined and super-G events in the women's standing class.

Bochet swept the board at last year's IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships in La Molina, Spain, winning gold in each of the five disciplines she entered in the standing class.

She also won the women's standing speed events at the 2013 World Cup finals in Sochi on the same course used for the Paralympic Games.

Her exploits last year saw her pick up the prestigious World Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability Award at last month's Laureus World Sports Awards in Kuala Lumpur.

The Frenchwoman now joins ice sledge hockey player Declan Farmer of the United States, who was voted the Best Male Athlete at Sochi 2014 earlier this month.

The IPC has decided to split its traditional Athlete of the Month poll into three separate categories for March in recognition of performances at Sochi 2014.

The final category will see fans given the opportunity to vote for the Team of Sochi 2014 later this month.

The IPC will announce the nominees shortly.
