April 17 - The IPC is now seeking bids from cities to host its next General Assembly ©Getty Images Cities interested in hosting next year's General Assembly of the the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) have been invited to put in bids.

Held every two years, the IPC General Assembly is the "supreme authority" of the IPC and is composed of representatives of National Paralympic Committees, International Organisations of Sport for the Disabled, regional organisations, international sport federations, IPC sports, guests and observers.

The 2015 Assembly and its related meetings will last a total of four days and is expected to attract around 350 people from more than 100 countries.

As well as staging the main Assembly, the successful bid city will also be required to host a two-day meeting of the IPC Governing Board, the Allianz Paralympic Sport and Media Awards, which recognise the achievements and contributions to Sochi 2014, and a day-long Forum.

"The IPC General Assembly is the biggest gathering of the IPC membership outside of the Paralympic Games and attracts people from all over the world," said IPC's head of protocol, hospitality and events Stephanie Keller.

"This is a high profile event which has greatly benefitted previous host cities including Athens, Beijing and Kuala Lumpur and we are confident that a similar impact will be achieved in 2015.

"Bidding cities, amongst many other areas, need to consider the accessibility requirements that come with an event of this nature - covering transport, meeting venues and accommodation."

Last year's event took place in the Greek capital Athens and saw the election of Sir Philip Craven as IPC President for a fourth term.

Brazilian Paralympic Committee President Andrew Parsons was elected as vice-president, replacing Australia's Greg Hartung, while elections for the IPC Governing Board also took place.

The 2011 General Assembly was held in Beijing, while Sir Philip was elected for his third term as IPC President when the event was hosted by Kuala Lumpur in 2009.

Prospective bidders have until June 15 to submit their applications to host next year's gathering, which must address the requirements that are outlined in the bid document, including accessibility.
