April 17 - Tickets are now on sale for the IPC Athletics European Championships in Swansea ©Getty ImagesOrganisers of this year's International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletics European Championships in Swansea have put 15,000 tickets for the event on sale today.

The five-day Championships are due to take place from August 18 to 23 and fans can now purchase tickets priced between £3 ($5/€3.65) to £7 ($11.75/€8.50) for both morning and afternoon sessions at the Swansea University International Sports Village.

British stars Aled Davies, Jonnie Peacock, Hannah Cockroft and David Weir, all Paralympic and world champions, are set to join the likes of international athletes Marcel Hug from Switzerland, Jason Smyth from Ireland and Marlou Van Rhijn from the Netherlands at the Championships, the first time the event has been held in Britain.

"Swansea 2014 is an incredibly exciting event for the city and for Wales," said Paul Thorburn, chairman of Swansea 2014.

"The Championships will captivate fans from across Europe as the very best athletes from across the continent battle for gold medals and world records.

"We want as many people as possible to experience this historic event first hand and we have increased the capacity of the venue and ensured that our pricing is as accessible as possible.

"Our aim is to achieve full stadia across the week, ensuring a truly world-class experience for athletes and spectators alike".

All competition and training activity for the event will be hosted at the Swansea University International Sports Village, located within 800 metres of the main athlete accommodation where around 600 athletes from 40 countries are expected to stay during the competition.

Prior to London 2012, the university hosted training camps for the Mexican and New Zealand Paralympic teams.

The Championships, which are being delivered in partnership with Swansea Council, Disability Sport Wales, British Athletics, Welsh Athletics and the Welsh Government, are the fourth edition of the event following Assen 2003, Espoo 2005 and Stadskanaal 2012.

"This is the biggest Para-athletics event to be held in Great Britain since the London 2012 Paralympic Games and will feature many of the athletes who lit up the Olympic Stadium two years ago," said IPC chief executive Xavier Gonzalez.

"As a result we expect the demand for tickets to be extremely high and therefore people should try to buy sooner, rather than later, to avoid disappointment.

"Some of the world's best athletes will be competing in Swansea and it would be tremendous for them to do so in front of the strong and vocal crowds that Wales is renowned for worldwide."
