The home side controlled the match from start to finish running out 27-21 victors to send the home support into a frenzy inside the Papp László Sports Arena.

After Hypo Niederösterreich, Slagelse and Viborg, Győri became only the fourth team EHF Champions League history to successfully defend the title.

Despite an exhilarating match between the two sides, scenes of chaos exploded in the stands as the full-time whistle was blown as a group of Buducnost fans clashed with opposition supporters before tearing up chairs and throwing them at the onlooking stewards.

Győri hit the ground running in the match, taking an early two goal advantage through Anita Görbicz and Heidi Löke.

Buducnost struggled to penetrate the Győri defence in the opening few minutes of play and it was nt until the seventh minute that they managed to get past the defiant Győri goalkeeper, Katrine Lunde.

Play continued in much the same fashion throughout the first-half as Buducnost struggled to get a handle on the match, with Győri coming in at the break 15-10 to the good.

Some early pressure on the restart saw Buducnost close the gap to just three as they refused to give up on their title pursuit.

Urged on by the sell-out crowd, Győri again began to find their rhythm as they took control of the game extended their lead to five.

Despite a valiant effort by Buducnost, the gap could not be breached as Győri continued their unbeaten streak for the season and celebrated their second Champions League title in as many years.
