The ISAF Team Racing World Championship will be heading to Rutland Sailing Club next year ©ISAF Rutland Sailing Club in England has been announced as the host venue for the 2015 International Sailing Federation (ISAF) Team Racing World Championships.

The Championships are provisionally scheduled for July next year and will take place on Rutland Water, which is one of the largest man-made lakes in Europe and was constructed in 1976.

Since then the lake has played host to a number of national and international sailing events while Rutland Sailing Club, near Leicester and Peterborough, is a National Centre of Excellence.

"It is great news that Rutland Sailing Club have been awarded the Team Racing World Championships for 2015," said the Royal Yachting Association's (RYA) Team Racing Working Group chairman, David Campbell-James.

"The RYA will be doing everything possible to help make this a memorable event."

This will be the 11th edition of the Championships and second to be held in Britain following the inaugural event in West Kirby, Merseyside in 1995 which was won by the home nation.

Following 1995, the second edition of the Championships took place in Miami in 1998 with the United States taking the win while the following year in Dun Laoghaire, Ireland, New Zealand were crowned champions.

The Kiwis made it two-in-a-row when Lake Brno, Czech Republic was the host in 2001 with the event returning to the United States in 2005 and seeing another home win.

Auckland, New Zealand was the setting in 2007 as the Americans won their third title which was followed by a fourth in Gandia, Spain in 2007 and yet another two years later in Perth, Australia.

Britain finally managed to break the United States' dominance in Schull, Ireland as they secured a second win at the last edition of the Championships in 2011.

"Over the 20 year history of the ISAF Team Racing Worlds, team racing specialists, Olympic medallists and match racers have locked horns in the high octane team racing environment," said ISAF competitions manager, Jon Napier.

"More of the same close, exciting racing will be expected at the 2015 edition

"Rutland Sailing Club has a strong team racing heritage and passion for the discipline.

"With an exceptional infrastructure in place we look forward to working with the Organising Authority to deliver a successful event."
