The position of secretary general had been occupied by Erika Radewagen while Michaelle Vargas had been treasurer following elections last year which saw Joseph Langkilde voted in as ASNOC President.

But both Vargas and Radewagen resigned from their posts in March via email.

An ASNOC spokesperson confirmed to insidethegames that both claimed they did not have enough personal time to spend on ASNOC matters and that it was best to allow individuals who can provide more commitment to fill the roles.

As a result, elections were held at the ASNOC General Assembly at which Young, President of the American Samoa Tennis Association, was elected as the new secretary general.

Young has been a member of the ASNOC Executive Board for eight years.

New treasurer Taufa'asau has been President of the American Samoa Basketball Association for two years.

In addition, new Board members were also elected, Louis Solaita and Carl Floor.

American Samoa has competed at seven summer and one winter Olympic Games starting with Seoul in 1988 but has yet to win a medal.

Five American Samoan athletes competed at London 2012, including flagbearer Ching Wei, who took part in swimming events, and was joined in the pool by Megan Fonteno, while Elama Fa'Atonu competed in athletics, Anthony Liu in judo and Nathaniel Tuamoheloa in wrestling.
