The Chinese state-owned automotive manufacturing company signed an agreement with Nanjing 2014 today and will provide special clean technology vehicles to help the event lower its environmental impact and move towards more sustainable development.

As part of the deal, SAIC Motor will support the Games financially and provide 1,000 vehicles of various types for use throughout the competition.

Of these vehicles, 300 will be the company's "Sunwin Buses", which use clean technology to greatly reduce carbon emissions, according to the firm's vice-president, Zhou Lang-hui.

These buses will then be left to the city of Nanjing on the conclusion of the Games to be used for public transport throughout the area.

During the signing ceremony, Liu Yi-an, standing vice-secretary general of Nanjing 2014, expressed his gratitude for SAIC Motor's contribution to the Games before emphasising that this new partnership would help ensure the success of the event.

SAIC Motor, which owns brands such as MG and Roewe, is one of the big four Chinese automakers alongside Chang'an Motors, FAW Group and Dongfeng Motor and had the largest production volume of any of the nation's automakers in 2012.

The Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games will take place from August 16 to 28 and is expected to see around 3,600 athletes from 204 nations competing across 28 sports.
