Sixty athletes will represent Namibia at the African Youth Games in Gabarone ©ProactiveSixty Namibian athletes will compete at the African Youth Games when they get underway this week, a 30-fold increase on the athletes the country sent to the 2010 edition.

Namibia was represented by just two athletes at the inaugural Games when they were held in Rabat, Morocco four years ago.

The Namibia National Olympic Committee (NNOC) has announced 60 athletes will compete across 10 different sports when the Games begin in Gaborone, Botswana on Thursday (May 22).

They will leave from the capital Windhoek on Tuesday (May 20) for Gaborone, and will be led to the Games by Chef de Mission Monica Böhm.

"We are excited to have a big team of 60 athletes between the ages of 14 and 18 compete for Namibia at the second edition of the African Youth Games," said NNOC secretary general Joan Smit.

"This is a significant improvement from the last games four years ago, where Namibia competed with only two athletes."
