The Olympic Committee of Albania held a three-day sports administration course recently ©Albania NOCThe Olympic Committee of Albania has held a three-day sports administrators course which focussed on introducing participants to the principles of the Olympic Movement and the skills needed for a career in managing sporting organisations.

Students with a desire to pursue a career in sports administration, as well as individuals who are involved in sports development programmes and initiatives in local authorities across Albania, took part on the course which was held at the Clarendon Hotel in Shëngjini from May 29 to 31.

Various topics were discussed over the three days including the philosophy and principles of the worldwide Olympic Movement as well as values, ethics, fair play and violence in sport.

Strategic skills needed for a career in administration such as financial and human resource management were also covered, while managerial expertGenc Nexhipi took participants through an interactive session which focussed on using analytical thinking with an emphasis on ethics in sport.

The course is licensed by the International Olympic Committee and following completion, participants have the option of advancing to the Advanced Course for Sport Management which is expected to take place in November.

The Olympic Committee of Albania was established in 1958 and Albania took part in their first Olympic Games at Munich 1972.

Since then they have competed in a further six Summer Olympics since Barcelona 1992, while Alpine skiers Erjon Tola and Suela Mehilli represented the country at its third Winter Games in Sochi earlier this year.

The country has yet to win an Olympic medal.
