International Sailing Federation (ISAF) bosses are inviting bids until the deadline of October 1.

It is ISAF's longest-running event, having taken place every year since Sweden hosted the inaugural Championship in 1971.

Twenty-six countries have hosted the event in total, with more than 100 nations having competed.

This year's edition is due to take place from July 12 to 19 in Tavira, Portugal, with Langwaki in Malaysia the 2015 host.

Al Musannah Sports City, Oman, will host the 2016 event, before it heads to Akko, Israel, in 2017.

Portugal will have hosted it five times after this year's edition, more than any other country.

Great Britain has staged the Championship four times, with Australia, Italy, the Untied States and Canada hosting it three times.

Bids for the 2018 Youth Sailing World Championship will be reviewed by the Youth World Championship Sub-Committee during its meeting on November 2 at the ISAF Annual Conference in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.
