Interested candidates are required to have knowledge in sport or organisational development as well as knowledge of Paralympic Movement development projects and initiatives in specific regions.

The main function of the Education Committee is to develop and advise on strategies and policies related to the IPC's educational activities with schoolchildren and young athletes, and National Paralympic Committees raising awareness of the Paralympic Movement.

Interested candidates are required to have an understanding of individual, institutional and cultural barriers for women to get into leadership positions in sports and be a keen advocate and promoter of women in sport.

The IPC claims it is targeting a 30 per cent representation of female members across all of its Standing Committees, while all Committees will have at least one member who is an athlete that has competed at the Paralympic Games in the last eight years.

It is highly recommended that candidates have the suitable qualifications or appropriate experience on the topics relevant to the respective Committee and have a good command of the English language.

The terms of office for each Committee will run from 2014 to 2017, with the IPC set to appoint a chairperson for each at the next meeting of its Governing Board in Berlin in October.

Candidates put forward for membership of each Committee will then be considered before the Governing Board announces the final appointments towards the end of 2014.

Last week, the IPC announced the make-up of six other Standing Committees following a meeting of its Governing Board in Bonn which saw members appointed to the Anti-Doping, Audit and Finance, Classification, Medical, Legal and Ethics, and Sports Science Committees.

These terms will run until 2017 also.

To be considered for membership, candidates must submit the full set of application papers, including application form, signed undertaking, CV and a support letter from their nominating member organisation.
