India's teams for Glasgow 2014 and Incheon 2014 will be sponsored by Amul ©Getty ImagesIndia's largest milk brand has announced its sponsorship of the Indian teams going to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and the Incheon 2014 Asian Games.

Amul, believed to be the biggest producer of milk in the world, has previously supported the Cricket World Cup and the Indian round of the Formula One World Championship.

It also sponsored India's contingent to the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The company, which has signed as an official sponsor of the Glasgow and Incheon-bound teams under the category of dairy products, was founded in 1946.

It has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) as part of the deal.

IOA secretary general Shri Rajeev Mehta and Shri R S Sodhi, managing director of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation, which markets Amul, were at the signing.

"Amul is committed to strengthening the support to sports in various forms and encourage young generation from all corners of the country to take up sports," said Sodhi.

"I take great pleasure and pride in announcing our sponsorship of the Indian contingent to the XX Commonwealth Games and the XVII Asian Games."

Amul is expected to launch a series of advertising campaigns to promote its association with the Indian teams in the coming weeks.

India is sending 224 athletes across 14 sports to Glasgow 2014, alongside 90 officials, coaches and support staff.

That is less than half of the 495 athlete it fielded for its home Games in Delhi four years ago.

IOA secretary general Mehta said he thinks the team will win "more or less" the same number of medals it did in Delhi, when it picked up 38 gold, 27 silver and 36 bronze to finish second on the medals table.

Glasgow 2014 is due to run from July 23 to August 3, while the Asian Games will take place in the South Korean city of Incheon from September 19 to October 4.
