Former Maltese Olympic Committee President Judge Gino Camilleri has died at the age of 64 ©MOCFormer Maltese Olympic Committee (MOC) and Commonwealth Games Association of Malta President Gino Camilleri has died at the age of 64, it was announced today.


Camilleri, a judge in Malta, had been the President of the MOC between 1989 and 1999.

He was also a former member of the European Olympic Committees Legal Commission and chairman of the Commonwealth Games Federation's Advisory Committee for integration of disabled athletes.

Camilleri was also a former President of the Amateur Swimming Association of Malta and of the Squash Association of Malta.

Camilleri had been ill for several months.

"With great sadness and deep regret, I have just received the sad news that Judge Gino Camilleri, ex President of the Maltese Olympic Committee and the Commonwealth Games Association of Malta just passed away at the age of 64," the  MOC said in a statement on Facebook.

"Heartfelt condolences to his dearest family and friends.

"May the Good Lord grant him eternal life.

"Rest in peace dear Gino."

The Maltese Government were also among those to pay tribute to the Valletta-born Camilleri.
