Author Lone Viggers has collaborated with the Olympic Sports Confederation of Denmark and Team Denmark to come up with eating plans and healthy food tips in the build-up to the Games in 2016.

Viggers claims the book reveals what is the "optimal nutrition" for Danish sports stars and sets out what young aspiring athletes should be consuming to allow them to reach their goals of competing on the elite international stage and reaching the Olympics.

"I have taken as a basis the reality and the food that is out among the young people who practice [sport] a lot," said Viggers, who based some of the findings on studying young athletes in the town of Holstebro.

"I have asked the young talents in Holstebro what they like to eat and launched the [recipes] in healthier versions."

Denmark had its most successful Olympic Games in 64 years when it claimed nine medals at London 2012.

This included two gold, four silver and three bronze medals.

Rowers Rasmus Quist and  Mads Rasmussen won gold in the men's lightweight double sculls, while Lasse Norman Hansen took gold in the men's cycling omnium.

At last month's Summer Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, Denmark won one silver and three bronze medals.

Mikkel Honore and Rasmus Salling won cycling silver, while the girl's duo of Anna Madsen and Pernille Mathiesen took bronze on the bike.

Anne Sofie Kirkegaard secured girls' 400m hurdles bronze, while boy's individual triathlon bronze was secured by Emil Hansen.

Hansen was also part of the Europe 1 team that took mixed relay gold in Nanjing.
