The 18-year-old Chinese star stops the clock at 2:08.94 to beat Japanese duo Kanako Watanabe and Miho Teremura into second and third. 

"Something not right"...about Malaysia drugs sample

20:18 A quick anti-doping update before we return to the action. There have been two confirmed failed tests so far, concerning Tajikistan footballer Khurshed Beknazarov and Cambodia soft tennis player Sophany Vi. But there have also been rumours about another one involving an unnamed wushu player from Malaysia. Malaysian Chef de Mission Datuk Daniyal Balagopal Abdullah has said a report into the athlete is currently being "scrutinised" as there appeared to be something amiss.

"They have given the report to us," he said, according the Rakyat Post. "We are making observations. So far, nothing has been done. This often happens when a country wins its first gold. They take an athlete for doping but the report takes a long time. We feel that something is not right."

Earlier in the Games, Tai Cheau Xuen won gold for Malaysia in the women's nanquan and nandao all round event. 

Iranian heading for successful heavyweight defence

20:12 Talking of athletes oozing class, Behdad Salimikordasiabi has just nailed an Asian Games record of 210kg in the snatch component of the men's heavyweight weightlifting. The London 2012 Olympic champion narrowly misses an attempt at 215kg as well. 

Ibragim Bersanov of Kazakhstan and Ivan Efremov of Uzbekistan are his closest challengers after both lifted 192kg.

Sun Yang wins 1,500m freestyle to take golden hatrick

20:06 With his numerous digs at his rivals Sun Yan may not be coming across as the most likable character at these Games, but he is proving his class over and over again. A dominant swim today by an athlete who oozed invincibility and class throughout. 



20:01 And there it is. It's well outside his world record, but Sun Yang wins the men's 1,500m freestyle in a time of 14:49.75. Kohei Yamamoto takes the silver medal for Japan in 14:54:86, while Wang Kecheng of China takes bronze 12 seconds back.

Park Tae-hwan was fourth in 15:12.15. He ends with one silver, four bronzes and a fourth place finish. Not quite what he was hoping for in the stadium named after him...

19:56 A quick break from the pool to bring you a belated picture of the Pakistan cricket team celebrating that thrilling victory over Bangladesh earlier (see 17:45). But, as we move into the second half, Sun Yang is looking more and more dominant. We are not going to have as close a finish as the cricketing one...

19:41 The swimmers are now underway in the 1,500m freestyle. It is being conducted in a "fastest heat wins" format, but all the realistic medal contenders are swimming now. Earlier on today, Cho Cheng Chi clocked 15:40.54 to set the fastest time in the slowest heat. That is one minute and nine seconds slower than Sun Yang's world record.

19:38 Back in the pool, and Sayaka Akase of Japan wins the women's 200m backstroke title in 2:10.31. Chen Jie took silver for China, while bronze went to Nguyen Thi Anh Vien of Vietnam.

World's strongest man?

19:35 The defending champion was meant to be entering the competition at 195kg, but has changed to 200kg now. Laying down a mantle to his rivals, perhaps? The best snatch lift so far has been Ibragim Bersanov of Kazakhstan.

19:29 Leading entry in tonight's event is the defending champion, and reigning Olympic champion, Behdad Salimikordasiabi of Iran, the man who has followed in the footsteps of Rezazadeh, after taking up the sport aged 12 after being inspired by him.

He has had an interesting couple of years since London 2012. The following year, he and many other Iranian lifters reportedly refused to attend national training camp claiming that their head coach Kourosh Bagheri had been using offensive and abusive language. Salimi was dismissed from the 2013 World Championships and Asian Championships squad after taking part in a heated national TV debate with the coach.

But the row has now been settled and he carried the Iranian flag at the Opening Ceremony, which was beginning, well, about now in fact this time a week ago. 



19:24 Speaking of big athletes of my childhood, Iranian weightlifter Hossein Rezazadeh, the two-time Olympic and five-time world champion, was certainly the biggest, and one of the best, of the lot. Once he had retired, there was that thrilling victory for Germany's Matthias Steiner at Beijing 2008, a year after his wife had tragically died in a car accident. 

Final night of action in swimming and weightlifting

19:18 I feel the need to add, in a slightly partisan vein, that the world record in this event was broken at the European Championships in Berlin last month by Adam Peaty of Great Britain, another 19-year-old of unlimited potential. Could Peaty and Balandin be great rivals of the future, I wonder?

When I was growing up, the great rivalry in male breaststroke events was Kosuke Kitajima of Japan against Brendan Hansen of the US, with Kitajima always seeming to finish on top at the big events...

19:15 A second race and a second Games record. It's a third win of the week for Dmitriy Balandin, the Kazakh teenager who has been one of the finds of the Championships. He clocks 27.78 to win by 0.11 hundredths of a second from Yasuhiro Koseki of Japan, while Sandeep Sejwal of India takes bronze. 

19:08 There are a lot of Chen Xinyi after her victory earlier and in not a single one does she look happy...



19:05 An Asian Games record to begin proceedings in the pool as Chen Xinyi sets a mark of 24.87 to win the women's 50m freestyle ahead of Miki Uchida of Japan and compatriot Tang Yi. 

18:58 We are turning our attention onto the pool now for the final evening of swimming action. Most of the attention is on the men's 1,500m freestyle, with China's Sun Yang having one final duel with Park Taek-wan. It's fair to say Sun Yang is no stranger to controversy, and he has taken another pot-shot at his other big rival, Kosuke Hagino of Japan, by reportedly saying that the "ugly" Japanese National Anthem provided motivation for the Chinese victory in the 4x100m freestyle relay. 

Hagino isn't in the 1,500m tonight and to be honest, we are not expecting anything other than a win for Sun. The stadium may be named after Park but he has only managed to win minor medals in it thus far...

Bowling gold for South Korea

18:53 That means the trend of different nations winning gold medals in each bowling event continues, with South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Japan having all taken one each. China, Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia have all won minor medals. 

18:48 South Korea's Son Yunhee and Lee Nayoung win the gold medal in the women's doubles bowling, after a fairly quiet day from the host nation so far. Sin Li Jane and Zulkifli Shalin of Malaysia take silver, while Lee Yeongseung and Jung Dawun of South Korea place third!

The final event of the weightlifting competition, the men's heavyweight event, is about to begin. It promises to be one of the showpiece events of the Games. 



18:34 We're in the closing stages of the women doubles bowling competition now, the second group of it anyway, and then the swimming finals begin at 19:00. A football result to bring you from earlier. Iraq are into the men's quarter-finals after defeating Tajikistan 4-2 in the end. 

Dominant trampolining title for unstoppable Dong Dong

"I got a lot of medal in gymnastics trampoline, but I have no plan to retire. I should practice more to participate next Olympics Games. I think trampoline is my job and I will keep going as long as I can." - Reigning Olympic, world and Asian champion Dong Dong after defending his Asian Games individual trampolining title.

18:25 One more gold medal to bring you up to date with as Dong Dong of China successfully defends his men's trampolining title with a score of 62.480. Tu Xiao takes silver in a Chinese 1-2 and bronze goes to Yasuhiro Ueyama of Japan.

So domination for the Chinese with two 1-2 finishes on the only day of trampolining action here in Incheon. They were just as dominant as Japan were in the two triathlon events yesterday. 

Weightlifting world record for Chinese heavyweight



18:19 And that means that the gold medal also goes to Zhou Lulu of China. Her total score is an Asian Games record of 334kg. Kazakhstan's Mariya Grabovetskaya takes the silver medal and Thailand's Chitchanok Pulsabsakul the bronze. 

We mentioned shooting earlier, but weightlifting is another sport that has really lit up these Games. The headlines have been generated by the North Koreans, but the Chinese have also been simply magnificent. 

18:13 Our first world record of the day and it has come on the final day of weightlifting action. China's Zhou Lulu set an Asian Games record in the women's heavyweight snatch competition, but then goes one better in the clean and jerk, a world record of 192kg. 

18:06 But a big moment as India avenge Kuwait for the defeat in the men's singles squash final by ousting them in the team event. A 2-0 win to set up a final against either Hong Kong or Malaysia. 

Significantly, Abdullah Kh Kh H M Almezayen was beaten by the man he vanquished in the singles final, Saurav Ghosal. Bittersweet for the Indian who will be kicking himself for not getting the job done in the gold medal match. It was close again, 3-2 to the Indian player.  

17:59 The men's trampolining final is also underway and the Chinese will be leading the way in that event as well, with their team led by the reigning world, Olympic and Asian Games champion, Dong Dong. It doesn't get much better than that.

Pakistan wins women's cricket final over Bangladesh on final ball

17:53 Well...its taken a little while to catch our breath after that one, although I'm not sure how many other people were quite as captivated... Speaking as a purist of the game, I'm not a huge fan of seven over matches. This is a sport that is meant to last five days for goodness sake, but, that said, I am prepared to make exceptions. 

I barely need to add that two new countries are on the medals table. Sorry, three new countries, Sri Lanka, lest we forget, taking bronze after their win over China earlier. Oh and just to clarify, China have won a few medals already. 

17:45 Gold to Pakistan in the women's cricket! What a finish! The last ball is harmlessly missed by the batsman and there is utter jubilation. The Pakistani players are jumping up and down, and Bangladesh cannot believe it. To inherit an old saying, they have grabbed defeat from the jaws of victory...

17:43 And another wicket next ball! A slog straight back to the bowler. It's five to win, four to tie with one ball left. On this wicket, with new batsman Shaila Sharmin facing her first ball and very much a tail-ender, surely the tables have turned and, suddenly, out of nowhere, Pakistan are going to win. 

17:42 A big swipe next ball but straight to a fielder. They run one, and, oh, they've gone for a second which simply isn't on and it is a run-out! Wild celebrations.

17:40 Into the last over, and Bangladesh require seven runs to win from four balls. This is utterly compelling. It's a reverse sweep down to third man from Rumana Ahmed, spotting the gap, and they scurry a single. Six from three. 

17:37 Back to the cricket and, amazing scenes over at the Yeonhui Cricket Ground. Bangladesh are nine runs away. But they are six wickets down. Pakistan are still in this, just. Pressure is on...

Tajikistan level with Iraq

17:30 We will bring you up to date with the gymnastics once the cricket is over, but a quick result at half time in the football. Tajikistan are 1-1 with Iraq in their last 16 clash. The rain stopped after a few minutes into the game, and Humam Faraj put Iraq ahead six minutes into the game, before Dilshod Vasiev responded with the next goal after 36 minutes into the first half.

Considering a member of the Tajikistan team has been sent home for failing a drugs test and they are playing one of the favourites, a great effort so far. 

Duckworth Lewis Method for anyone?

17:25 An amazing start by Bangladesh. They are 30 for the loss of three wickets four overs. Shots like we haven't seen here at all. They look like they're heading for gold, with the target just 43. What have you got left Pakistan?

17:20 In case you were wondering the rain has completely eased, but there are still some delays elsewhere due to the wet conditions. In tennis especially, where players are just coming back out to start warming up after some lengthy delays. 

17:15 So, underway in the cricket, but the target has been revised. Bangladesh are now required to get 43 runs in seven overs. Devised by two English statisticians, Frank Duckworth and Tony Lewis, it is a mathematical formulation designed to calculate the target score for the team batting second in a limited overs cricket match interrupted by weather or other circumstances. Hardly anyone - make that absolutely no one - understands it, and most people disagree with the targets, but it is generally seen as the fairest way.

Essentially Bangladesh have 42 balls to get 43 runs. So basically a run a ball. Simples? 

17:10 Yang Zhe wins the first weightlifting final of the day, with a combined total of 403kg in the men's under 105kg division. Kim Minjae takes silver for South Korea and the bronze medal goes to Sardorbek Dusmurotov ogf Uzbekistan. 

17:04 Meanwhile, the artistic gymnastics programme may have finished last night, but the trampolining competition is being held today. The women's final is up first and, after qualification earlier, Li Dan and Zhong Xingping, both of China, are occupying the top two positions.

Japan dominate mixed triathlon relay

16:50 An utterly dominant two days for Japan in triathlon continues, as they win the first mixed team relay in the history of the Asian Games, incidentally.
