Good night!

23:00 Tomorrow will see 28 medals won. But it also marks a changing of the guard, with virtually all the "first-week" sports now completed. Weightlifting and swimming will be replaced by athletics, road cycling and wrestling tomorrow while the first medals will be won in archery. It is also the final day of competition in shooting and squash, while action will heat up across the team sports, as well as in sailing and golf.

The athletics medal to be won tomorrow, incidentally, will be in the men's 5,000m and hammer, and the women's 10,000m, 3,000m steeplechase and shot put.

I will be back at 09:00 tomorrow morning to cover all of the action. See you then!

21:57 While the women's cricket final was a personal highlight - with three new countries, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, consequently on the medals table - plenty else caught the eye today. More Chinese dominance, but Japanese success in triathlon, South Korean victories in three-day eventing and Iranian success in heavyweight weightlifting. China are closing in on 100 medals, but South Korea are tenaciously holding off Japan in second, while Kazakhstan and Iran gained ground behind.

Medals table after day seven

21:55 On that note, we are going to wrap things up after another entertaining day. Away from the sport, we've had the revelation that three Nepalese athletes have gone missing, from the sports of wushu and sepak takraw, while there's been some more tittle-tattle about whether there has been a third failed drugs test at these Games.

21:52 In handball, meanwhile, Qatar were first through to the men's semi-finals after a win over Taiwan. South Korea joined after ending the hope of surprise package Oman. Iran got the better of Saudi Arabia while, in the last match that finished a few moments ago, Bahrain edged past Kuwait 26-22.

21:46 A few team results to wrap-up before we finish. In women's football, quarter-final wins for North Korea over China, Vietnam over Thailand, South Korea over Taiwan and Japan over Hong Kong.

Hagino the leading athlete of Incheon 2014?

21:37 Just by way of wrapping up the swimming, if you can brave the small print, here is an interesting graphic of the best performing athletes of the Games so far. Kosuke Hagino leads the way ahead of a plethora of Chinese athletes including three swimmers... In the early part of the pool action it literally was Japan and China winning every race but it was good to see success for Singapore and Kazakhstan among others, with Kazakh breaststroke star Dmitriy Balandin probably the find of the meet.

South East Asian supremacy in sailing

21:28 All 14 sets of medals in the sport will be won next Wednesday (October 1)

21:21 Time for a quick look at some other sports now, starting with sailing, where South East Asia is enjoying unprecedented success so far.

Singapore flagThe Singaporean duo of Jia Yi Loh  and Jonathan Yeo in the men's 420 class are hot favorites for medals. The pair won gold in the 2014 Tavira Youth Championship and at the test event in Wangsan, they took the bronze, while Malaysians Mohamad Faizal Bin Norizan and  Ahmad Syukri Bin Abdul Aziz took the gold medal in Wansan test event and the silver in the 2014 Tavira Youth Championship. Having placed eighth in today's race, they have taken the lead.

In the women's 420, The Singaporean pair Min Kimberly Lim and Kiah Hui Savannah Siew are aiming for gold. They won the silver medal in the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games and in the 2014 World Championship. Another strong contender is Nuraisyah Binti Jamil and Umi Norwahida Binti Sallahuddin of Malaysia. At the moment, the Singaporean pair are lying in first place.

Thai flagIn the laser radial category, Singaporean Elizabeth Yin, ranked 11th in the world, is the favorite for gold. She won a gold medal at the 2013 SEA (South East Asian Games) and also a bronze at the 2013 Laser North American Championships in Canada. Currently, in Incheon, she is racing fifth but she has still many races to come. In the Hobie-16 category, the Vongtim brothers, Damrongsak Vongtim and Kitsada Vongtim of Thailand are strong contenders. Damrongsak Vongtim, the elder by 12 years, is eyeing his fourth Asian Games gold.

And in 29er which is introduced in the Asian Games for the first time, the Singaporean pair of Rui Xi Priscilla Low and  Rui Qi Cecilia Low , a gold medalist in Wangsan test event, are strong favorites for medal. Rui Qi Cecilia Low won the gold medal in the 420 class at the Guangzhou 2010 Asian games. Their biggest opponent is Noppakao Poonpat and  Nichapa Waiwai of Thailand. They are in first place so far, ahead of the Singaporean pair.

Olympic champion Iranian defends heavyweight weightlifting crown

21:12 This also brings to an end an entertaining weightlifting competition over the last seven days. Our 16:00 for women and 19:00 for men spots won't be the same without it...

World record iconThe International Weightlifting Federation has reminded insidethegames this evening that, across the male events, there were a total 34 world, junior world, Asian and Asian Games records, including three world records. For women, there were 44 records, including six world records.

They "believe the 78 records speaks for itself and shows how strong our sport in Asia is". I think they're probably correct.

21:02 Unfortunately, the Iranian opts not to speak to the media afterwards, so it's a pity we can't hear his reflections. But he is rapidly rising up the standings towards all-time greatness stakes. He proved tonight that he is not far off the overall standards his compatriot Hossein Rezazadeh used to achieve.

Behdad Salimikordasiabi lifts gold for Iran ©Getty Images

Incheon 2014 gold medal20:50 That means that it is a gold medal for Behdad Salimkordasiabi of Iran! He breaks Asian Games record marks in all three components, snatch, clean and jerk and overall, to dominate the field. In second place is Ai Yunan of China following a strong clean and jerk segment, while Chen Shih Chien of Taiwan takes bronze!

Iranian flag20:46 We will wrap up the swimming a little later but we've got our Iranian flag out because Behdad Salimikordasiabi has clean and jerked his way to 255kg for a total of 465kg. He's got one attempt left, but we understand he will not attempt it...

Another hatrick for China in swimming

Incheon 2014 gold medal20:40 What a finish! China overhaul Japan in spectacular style to end the swimming programmme on a high and win the men's 4x100m medley relay. Japan, despite leading for the middle half of the race, are 0.33 seconds behind in second place, while South Korea take bronze.

20:35 Now it is the final swimming event of the Games. The men's 4x100m medley relay! China versus Japan versus South Korea...

20:33 In the weightlifting, Ai Yunan has just clean and jerked 235kg to take the overall lead in the heavyweight weightlifting. He managed 190kg in the snatch. But Behdad Salimikordasiabi is yet to begin, he will enter the competition at a mammoth 241kg.

When you stop and think how heavy that really is, it is scarcely comprehensible.

Incheon 2014 gold medal20:26 Some big names in world sport are competing here tonight. Olympic champion Ye Shiwen has just earned her third gold of the Games with a Championship record in the 200m individual medley. The 18-year-old Chinese star stops the clock at 2:08.94 to beat Japanese duo Kanako Watanabe and Miho Teremura into second and third.

"Something not right"...about Malaysia drugs sample

20:18 A quick anti-doping update before we return to the action. There have been two confirmed failed tests so far, concerning Tajikistan footballer Khurshed Beknazarov and Cambodia soft tennis player Sophany Vi. But there have also been rumours about another one involving an unnamed wushu player from Malaysia. Malaysian Chef de Mission Datuk Daniyal Balagopal Abdullah has said a report into the athlete is currently being "scrutinised" as there appeared to be something amiss.

"They have given the report to us," he said, according the Rakyat Post. "We are making observations. So far, nothing has been done. This often happens when a country wins its first gold. They take an athlete for doping but the report takes a long time. We feel that something is not right."

Earlier in the Games, Tai Cheau Xuen won gold for Malaysia in the women's nanquan and nandao all round event.

Iranian heading for successful heavyweight defence

Iranian flag20:12 Talking of athletes oozing class, Behdad Salimikordasiabi has just nailed an Asian Games record of 210kg in the snatch component of the men's heavyweight weightlifting. The London 2012 Olympic champion narrowly misses an attempt at 215kg as well.

Ibragim Bersanov of Kazakhstan and Ivan Efremov of Uzbekistan are his closest challengers after both lifted 192kg.

Sun Yang wins 1,500m freestyle to take golden hatrick

20:06 With his numerous digs at his rivals Sun Yan may not be coming across as the most likable character at these Games, but he is proving his class over and over again. A dominant swim today by an athlete who oozed invincibility and class throughout.

Sun Yang en route to gold ©Getty Images

Incheon 2014 gold medal20:01 And there it is. It's well outside his world record, but Sun Yang wins the men's 1,500m freestyle in a time of 14:49.75. Kohei Yamamoto takes the silver medal for Japan in 14:54:86, while Wang Kecheng of China takes bronze 12 seconds back.

Park Tae-hwan was fourth in 15:12.15. He ends with one silver, four bronzes and a fourth place finish. Not quite what he was hoping for in the stadium named after him...

19:56 A quick break from the pool to bring you a belated picture of the Pakistan cricket team celebrating that thrilling victory over Bangladesh earlier (see 17:45). But, as we move into the second half, Sun Yang is looking more and more dominant. We are not going to have as close a finish as the cricketing one...

Pakistan celebrate a last gasp victory over Bangladesh to take cricket gold ©Getty Images

Chinese flag19:48 Coming up to halfway, and Sun Yang, the reigning world and Olympic champion in this event as well as the world record holder, has led after every length. Kohei Yamamoto of Japan is currently second with Tae Hwan-park back in fourth place, to the disappointment of all the volunteers here in the Media Centre.

19:41 The swimmers are now underway in the 1,500m freestyle. It is being conducted in a "fastest heat wins" format, but all the realistic medal contenders are swimming now. Earlier on today, Cho Cheng Chi clocked 15:40.54 to set the fastest time in the slowest heat. That is one minute and nine seconds slower than Sun Yang's world record.

Incheon 2014 gold medal19:38 Back in the pool, and Sayaka Akase of Japan wins the women's 200m backstroke title in 2:10.31. Chen Jie took silver for China, while bronze went to Nguyen Thi Anh Vien of Vietnam.

World's strongest man?

19:35 The defending champion was meant to be entering the competition at 195kg, but has changed to 200kg now. Laying down a mantle to his rivals, perhaps? The best snatch lift so far has been Ibragim Bersanov of Kazakhstan.

19:29 Leading entry in tonight's event is the defending champion, and reigning Olympic champion, Behdad Salimikordasiabi of Iran, the man who has followed in the footsteps of Rezazadeh, after taking up the sport aged 12 after being inspired by him.

He has had an interesting couple of years since London 2012. The following year, he and many other Iranian lifters reportedly refused to attend national training camp claiming that their head coach Kourosh Bagheri had been using offensive and abusive language. Salimi was dismissed from the 2013 World Championships and Asian Championships squad after taking part in a heated national TV debate with the coach.

But the row has now been settled and he carried the Iranian flag at the Opening Ceremony, which was beginning, well, about now in fact this time a week ago.

19:24 Speaking of big athletes of my childhood, Iranian weightlifter Hossein Rezazadeh, the two-time Olympic and five-time world champion, was certainly the biggest, and one of the best, of the lot. Once he had retired, there was that thrilling victory for Germany's Matthias Steiner at Beijing 2008, a year after his wife had tragically died in a car accident.

Final night of action in swimming and weightlifting

British Flag19:18 I feel the need to add, in a slightly partisan vein, that the world record in this event was broken at the European Championships in Berlin last month by Adam Peaty of Great Britain, another 19-year-old of unlimited potential. Could Peaty and Balandin be great rivals of the future, I wonder?

When I was growing up, the great rivalry in male breaststroke events was Kosuke Kitajima of Japan against Brendan Hansen of the US, with Kitajima always seeming to finish on top at the big events...

Incheon 2014 gold medal19:15 A second race and a second Games record. It's a third win of the week for Dmitriy Balandin, the Kazakh teenager who has been one of the finds of the Championships. He clocks 27.78 to win by 0.11 hundredths of a second from Yasuhiro Koseki of Japan, while Sandeep Sejwal of India takes bronze.

19:08 There are a lot of Chen Xinyi after her victory earlier and in not a single one does she look happy...

Incheon 2014 gold medal19:05 An Asian Games record to begin proceedings in the pool as Chen Xinyi sets a mark of 24.87 to win the women's 50m freestyle ahead of Miki Uchida of Japan and compatriot Tang Yi.

18:58 We are turning our attention onto the pool now for the final evening of swimming action. Most of the attention is on the men's 1,500m freestyle, with China's Sun Yang having one final duel with Park Taek-wan. It's fair to say Sun Yang is no stranger to controversy, and he has taken another pot-shot at his other big rival, Kosuke Hagino of Japan, by reportedly saying that the "ugly" Japanese National Anthem provided motivation for the Chinese victory in the 4x100m freestyle relay.

Hagino isn't in the 1,500m tonight and to be honest, we are not expecting anything other than a win for Sun. The stadium may be named after Park but he has only managed to win minor medals in it thus far...

Bowling gold for South Korea

18:53 That means the trend of different nations winning gold medals in each bowling event continues, with South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Japan having all taken one each. China, Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia have all won minor medals.

Incheon 2014 gold medal18:48 South Korea's Son Yunhee and Lee Nayoung win the gold medal in the women's doubles bowling, after a fairly quiet day from the host nation so far. Sin Li Jane and Zulkifli Shalin of Malaysia take silver, while Lee Yeongseung and Jung Dawun of South Korea place third!

18:40 Another great photo from the weightlifting earlier as South Korea's silver medal winner Kim Min-jae looks on as China's champion Yang Zhe plays with his eight-month old son Kim Myung-Jun on the podium. The final event of the weightlifting competition, the men's heavyweight event, is about to begin. It promises to be one of the showpiece events of the Games.

18:34 We're in the closing stages of the women doubles bowling competition now, the second group of it anyway, and then the swimming finals begin at 19:00. A football result to bring you from earlier. Iraq are into the men's quarter-finals after defeating Tajikistan 4-2 in the end.

Dominant trampolining title for unstoppable Dong Dong

Quote marks"I got a lot of medal in gymnastics trampoline, but I have no plan to retire. I should practice more to participate next Olympics Games. I think trampoline is my job and I will keep going as long as I can." - Reigning Olympic, world and Asian champion Dong Dong after defending his Asian Games individual trampolining title.

Incheon 2014 gold medal18:25 One more gold medal to bring you up to date with as Dong Dong of China successfully defends his men's trampolining title with a score of 62.480. Tu Xiao takes silver in a Chinese 1-2 and bronze goes to Yasuhiro Ueyama of Japan.

So domination for the Chinese with two 1-2 finishes on the only day of trampolining action here in Incheon. They were just as dominant as Japan were in the two triathlon events yesterday.

Weightlifting world record for Chinese heavyweight

Heavyweight Zhou Lulu clean and jerks a stunning world record ©AFP/Getty Images

Incheon 2014 gold medal18:19 And that means that the gold medal also goes to Zhou Lulu of China. Her total score is an Asian Games record of 334kg. Kazakhstan's Mariya Grabovetskaya takes the silver medal and Thailand's Chitchanok Pulsabsakul the bronze.

We mentioned shooting earlier, but weightlifting is another sport that has really lit up these Games. The headlines have been generated by the North Koreans, but the Chinese have also been simply magnificent.

World record icon18:13 Our first world record of the day and it has come on the final day of weightlifting action. China's Zhou Lulu set an Asian Games record in the women's heavyweight snatch competition, but then goes one better in the clean and jerk, a world record of 192kg.

Indian flag18:06 But a big moment as India avenge Kuwait for the defeat in the men's singles squash final by ousting them in the team event. A 2-0 win to set up a final against either Hong Kong or Malaysia.

Significantly, Abdullah Kh Kh H M Almezayen was beaten by the man he vanquished in the singles final, Saurav Ghosal. Bittersweet for the Indian who will be kicking himself for not getting the job done in the gold medal match. It was close again, 3-2 to the Indian player.

17:59 The men's trampolining final is also underway and the Chinese will be leading the way in that event as well, with their team led by the reigning world, Olympic and Asian Games champion, Dong Dong. It doesn't get much better than that.

Incheon 2014 gold medal17:56 A couple of other results to bring you now. Starting with the women's trampolining, where as expected China dominate, with Li Dan and Zhong Xingping
finishing first and second respectively, as Ayano Kishi of Japan takes bronze.

Pakistan wins women's cricket final over Bangladesh on final ball

17:53 Well...its taken a little while to catch our breath after that one, although I'm not sure how many other people were quite as captivated... Speaking as a purist of the game, I'm not a huge fan of seven over matches. This is a sport that is meant to last five days for goodness sake, but, that said, I am prepared to make exceptions.

I barely need to add that two new countries are on the medals table. Sorry, three new countries, Sri Lanka, lest we forget, taking bronze after their win over China earlier. Oh and just to clarify, China have won a few medals already.

Incheon 2014 gold medal17:45 Gold to Pakistan in the women's cricket! What a finish! The last ball is harmlessly missed by the batsman and there is utter jubilation. The Pakistani players are jumping up and down, and Bangladesh cannot believe it. To inherit an old saying, they have grabbed defeat from the jaws of victory...

17:43 And another wicket next ball! A slog straight back to the bowler. It's five to win, four to tie with one ball left. On this wicket, with new batsman Shaila Sharmin facing her first ball and very much a tail-ender, surely the tables have turned and, suddenly, out of nowhere, Pakistan are going to win.

17:42 A big swipe next ball but straight to a fielder. They run one, and, oh, they've gone for a second which simply isn't on and it is a run-out! Wild celebrations.

17:40 Into the last over, and Bangladesh require seven runs to win from four balls. This is utterly compelling. It's a reverse sweep down to third man from Rumana Ahmed, spotting the gap, and they scurry a single. Six from three.

17:37 Back to the cricket and, amazing scenes over at the Yeonhui Cricket Ground. Bangladesh are nine runs away. But they are six wickets down. Pakistan are still in this, just. Pressure is on...

Tajikistan level with Iraq

Tajikistan flag17:30 We will bring you up to date with the gymnastics once the cricket is over, but a quick result at half time in the football. Tajikistan are 1-1 with Iraq in their last 16 clash. The rain stopped after a few minutes into the game, and Humam Faraj put Iraq ahead six minutes into the game, before Dilshod Vasiev responded with the next goal after 36 minutes into the first half.

Considering a member of the Tajikistan team has been sent home for failing a drugs test and they are playing one of the favourites, a great effort so far.

Duckworth Lewis Method for anyone?

Bangladesh flag17:25 An amazing start by Bangladesh. They are 30 for the loss of three wickets four overs. Shots like we haven't seen here at all. They look like they're heading for gold, with the target just 43. What have you got left Pakistan?

17:20 In case you were wondering the rain has completely eased, but there are still some delays elsewhere due to the wet conditions. In tennis especially, where players are just coming back out to start warming up after some lengthy delays.

17:15 So, underway in the cricket, but the target has been revised. Bangladesh are now required to get 43 runs in seven overs. Devised by two English statisticians, Frank Duckworth and Tony Lewis, it is a mathematical formulation designed to calculate the target score for the team batting second in a limited overs cricket match interrupted by weather or other circumstances. Hardly anyone - make that absolutely no one - understands it, and most people disagree with the targets, but it is generally seen as the fairest way.

Essentially Bangladesh have 42 balls to get 43 runs. So basically a run a ball. Simples?

Incheon 2014 gold medal17:10 Yang Zhe wins the first weightlifting final of the day, with a combined total of 403kg in the men's under 105kg division. Kim Minjae takes silver for South Korea and the bronze medal goes to Sardorbek Dusmurotov ogf Uzbekistan.

17:04 Meanwhile, the artistic gymnastics programme may have finished last night, but the trampolining competition is being held today. The women's final is up first and, after qualification earlier, Li Dan and Zhong Xingping, both of China, are occupying the top two positions.

16:55 The covers are coming off and we are about to get back underway in the cricket.

Japan dominate mixed triathlon relay

16:50 An utterly dominant two days for Japan in triathlon continues, as they win the first mixed team relay in the history of the Asian Games, incidentally. One other fact of interest, down in 11th place and competing in a first Asian Games triathlon competition, was a team from Kuwait. Aljerewi I M Najlaa also competed in the individual race yesterday, and she did so wearing a hijab...

A different approach is being adopted in triathlon to that in basketball.

Japan celebrate a third consecutive gold medal in triathlon ©AFP/Getty Images

Incheon 2014 gold medal16:45 Japan win the gold in triathlon mixed relay! A dominant performance by Yuka Sato, Hirokatsu Tayama, Ai Ueda and Yuichi Hosoda to cross the line in 1:17:28, 71 seconds ahead of South Korea, with the bronze going to China.

China edge South Korea in thrilling archery semi

16:39 The sport grabbing the attention as far as our South Korean hosts are concerned this afternoon is archery. At a rain-soaked Gyeyang Asiad Archery Field, the men and women's team semi-finals are going on this afternoon. The women's matches were pretty conclusive. China overcoming Japan and South Korea beating India, each by a 6-0 margin.

But the men's were more interesting. First, Malaysia defeated Japan 5-1, before an absalutely brilliant match between China and South Korea, in which the Chinese won, 5-4. A match, remember, is best of five sets, with each set consisting of three arrows each. Two points are awarded for a set win - i.e. having a higher total than the opposition - with one point given if the scores are tied.

Japanese flag16:31 Onto the final leg of the triathlon relay, and the inevitable Japanese victory is now happening. They've broken clear on the third leg and have a lead of 40 seconds or so over South Korea. Rain is no problem in triathlon, of course, because they are all great swimmers anyway.

16:25 Speaking of sepak takraw, a men's semifinal match between Indonesia and South Korea has been resumed after being suspended due to a leakage in the Bucheon Gymnasium roof. South Korea are leading 1-0 in that contest at the moment, with the winner to face Thailand in the final.

Missing Nepalese sepak takraw player

16:20 It is reported the two wushu players to have followed in the footsteps of Pune are Sombir Tamang and Nirajan Ale Magar.

16:15 We will bring you an update from some of the indoor sports later but an update now on the news we brought you earlier (14:24) about the Nepal team member(s) who have gone missing. Nepali news website Ekantipur has named the first athletes as sepak takraw player Aman Pode, claiming that he has "shamed the nation" by "defecting".

His team, making debut in the Asian Games, had been eliminated in the first round, with Nepal Chef de Mission Chimmi Urgen Gurung confirming the player had left the Athletes' Village at around 02:00 on Tuesday.

Aman Pode is the Nepalese sepak takraw player to have gone missing ©Incheon 2014"It appears that he had planned to run away after the match," informed Gurung. "Not even his teammates knew about his intentions," The rest of the team has returned home and Gurung has already requested organisers to provide more vigilance on Nepali athletes to avoid further embarrassment. "The organisers have already asked the local security to search for the defected Nepali player," he said.

Interestingly, 18 Nepali players went missing the last time the Asian Games took place on South Korean soil, at Busan 2002.

Karatekas Ravi Maharjan and Radhika Deula also defected the team which had reached South Korea to participate in an Invitational Championships in 2007. Deula has returned home but Maharjan is still in South Korea.

Rain, rain and more rain

16:08 Elsewhere, there's some amazing television pictures we are getting of the archery, where athletes are shooting in raincoats in torrential condition that could not be more different from the boiling ones see at the World Cup Final in Lausanne earlier this month. Due to the rain, the women's beach volleyball quaterfinal between China and Kazakhastan has also been paused during the second set. The score was tied 9-9 but China's Ma Yuanyuan asked for the match to be stopped. China won the first set with the score of 21-14.

A cricketing picture from before the rain began ©Getty Images

16:00 And what of the triathlon, I hear you ask. Well, Alistair and Jonny Brownlee, the dominant British brothers who won gold and bronze at London 2012 Olympic Games, love these sort of conditions. As to how they're finding them today, my honest answer is I don't know, as the triathlon races are always hard to find live info from. I'm sure they will be find though as they are tough, tough athletes, these triathletes.

It's a humdinger of a race as well. as South Korea are just one second behind Japan after two of four legs. China are a minute behind in third and just ahead of Hong Kong.

Rain image15:52 Despite the rain, the golf rounds will not stop unless "there is excessive thunder and lightning or zero vision", we have been told. The authorities said that the match will continue and that although the rain and wind is strong, it is "merely part of the course and the sport". Take that cricket.

15:45 In fact, it is not just raining it is pouring. The rain is thundering down in the tinny sounding roof above me. An announcement follows: "Due to heavy rain, please make sure all doors and windows are closed". Useful advice.

15:42 But wait, the players are walking off. It is raining!

15:38 The Pakistani fielders have taken to the field and we are about to resume for the final 120 deliveries of the women's cricket competition.

Bangladesh flagPakistani flag15:35 We've got the final we wanted on the cricket. A competitive match that is hard to call at the halfway point, or the lunch-break, as it is known in the sport. Bismah Maroof top scores for Pakistan with 24 as the team make 97-6 from their 20 overs. In a normal match that is not enough, but on this pitch, against a bowling orientated team like Bangladesh, it is certainly a potentially good score.

I'm sitting so firmly on the fence I'm on the verge of sinking into the ground with this one, and feel the need for our first double flag icon of the Games such is the closeness of the contest. Even the team badminton final didn't merit that...

Japan looking for triathlon hatrick in mixed relay

15:24 Considering how they dominated the individual races, and can bring out two gold and two silver medal winners today, it's hard to look beyond Japan for the title. There are 12 teams competing today, and, unsurprisingly, it's Japan who have a 15 second lead over South Korea and China after leg one of four.

While individual races consist of a 1,500m swim, followed by a 40km cycle and a 10km run, in the mixed team relay, it is a 250m swim, followed by a speedy 6km cycle and then a 1.6km run. A mile run then in old language - although I am aware, before someone, probably my dad, reminds me, that a mile is actually 1 609.344 metres...

Japan dominated both the male and female individual triathlon races ©Getty Images

15:15 Suddenly, after a fairly gentle day so far, action is really hotting up. We will bring you up to date with the cricket at the moment, but the mixed triathlon relay has begun...

Seen as "an attractive blend of fast-paced action and frequent lead changes, making it both exciting to participate in and to watch", the triathlon relay has been introduced in relatively recent times into major triathlon events, with the International Triathlon Union hoping that it will feature at an Olympic Games in the future.

Each relay team member completes a  swim, bike and run before tagging the next team member, the race itself taking around and hour in total to complete. I can vouch, it was a real highlight at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and at the Summer Youth Olympics in Nanjing...

South Korea wins double gold in three-day eventing

15:05 Remarkably Song, who took up the sport in 1985 and made his international debut in 1997 is ranked 1055 in the International Equestrian Federation rankings. Huan Tia, in comparison, is 295th. His horse, incidentally, is Frh Fantasia.

Quote marks"I am really happy. I was worried a lot about today, but I expected this result because I practised so much since Guangzhou Asian Games." - Song reflects on improvements made since he finished 7th in the individual event four years ago. He did also win a team silver in individual showjumping back at Doha 2006...

Incheon 2014 gold medal14:58 And that means there is a second gold for South Korea, and for Song, as the host nation secure the team title with a total penalty of 133.00 at the Dream Park Equestrian Venue. Of the seven countries that participated, Japan took the second spot  scoring 142.50, and Hong Kong won the bronze with a penalty score of 153.80.

Incheon 2014 gold medal14:52 A thrilling conclusion to the three-day eventing, as South Korea's Song Sang-wuk edges overall victory after holding his nerve in the showjumping today.

The 41-year-old finished first in the individual eventing with the fewest penalty points of 37.90. China's Hua Tian took silver with 41.10 points and Bang Si-re of South Korea claimed the bronze with 41.30 points. The standard of the fencers is slightly easier than in the individual event that is still to come here in Incheon, but the fact that the leaders all managed clear rounds despite the pressure was superb.

Runner-up Hua Tian, did have one time penalty, but the top four finishes all went clear.

Final shooting gold goes to China

14:44 That is the final shooting gold medal to be won today, on another where China have dominated, but some other nations - in this case Qatar and Kazakhstan - have enjoyed strong moments.

Incheon 2014 gold medal14:40 We always knew it was going to be a Chinese gold, and it is Li Xue Yan who emerges on top in the 10m running target women's event at the Ongnyeon International Shooting Range. Another Chinese shooter Su Li won the silver and Vietnamese competitor Thi Thu Hang Nguyen took the bronze.

Nepalese athletes going missing?

14:31 This sounds rather similar to the case involving two members of the Ugandan rugby sevens team after the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow earlier this summer. You can read our article about that here.

14:24 An interesting story has emerged today involving one of Bangladesh's neighbours, Nepal. South Korean police have been hunting for a Nepalese competitor who disappeared from the Asian Games Athletes' Village. The Organising Committee said the male sepak takraw competitor did not appear on Wednesday (September 24) when his team gathered to fly home from Incheon.

At the request of the Nepalese team, South Korean police investigated and found the man had left the Athletes Village in the night without telling anyone. Organisers did not name the athlete but expressed regret at the incident. Police suspect he might seek to become an illegal migrant.

Speaking this morning, Incheon 2014 Director of International Relations, Jung Ki-young, said: "Through closed-circuit TV footage, we confirmed that he had disappeared. He was going to go back to his country after the match. He, however, disappeared from the venue. "

"Yesterday, two more athletes who participated in wushu disappeared. However, Nepal's team officials have their passports. The athletes disappeared from their squad without their passports. We think that they will be back soon because they can't stay in Korea without a passport."

Cricket, showjumping, bowling and shooting

Bangladesh flag14:16 Even-stevens in the cricket after three overs. Pakistan lose their first wicket but have made a reasonably swift start and are 14-1. Interestingly, Bangladesh is the most populous country in the world never to have won an Olympic medal. They have only competed at the last eight Games, starting at Los Angeles 1984, and have never sent more than six athletes to a single one.

Officials from the Bangladesh Olympic Association have said that the nation is "weak in sports, because the country's economy is not developed". Sounds like a bit of an excuse to me, they're not bad at cricket...

Chinese flag14:05 We don't have to look very far to find more Chinese success. Li Xue Yan will face Su Li in the all-Chinese 10m running target final to decide the last shooting gold medal of the day a little later on. Vietnam's Thi Thu Hang Nguyen will face Yang Zeng first for bronze. And I won't even tell you where Zeng is from.

13:58 The final stages are also taking place in the showjumping section of the three-day eventing. China's Hua Tian and Japan's Toshiyuki Tanaka are ranked second and third going into the concluding showjumping round, behind South Korea leader Song Sang-wuk. So another sport in which China does not have too heritage but is still managing to excel in.

13:48 Speaking of which, the women's cricket final is starting in a few moments time. Pakistan are batting first.

13:42 Interestingly, when you type in bowling to find images, you get a lot of picture of Chinese and Sri Lankan fielders celebrating. I'm not sure of a cricketing bowling action would help too much in the 10-pin form. You would probably get arrested for vandalism I expect. Though saying that, given how slow the cricket wicket is here, a bowling ball would probably stop after a couple of metres...

Malaysian flag13:34 Women's doubles is the event taking place today in bowling. After Squad A of the competition, the Malaysian team of Jane Sin Li  and Zulfiki Shalin are in the lead with 2518 points, followed by the South Korean teams of Lee Yeong-seung and Jung Da-wun with 2462 points, and Jeon Eun-hee and Kim Jin-sun with 2368 points.

Plenty more pairs to come later on though. The three events so far have been won by bowlers from three different countries - Thailand, Taiwan and Japan -  so will Malaysia continue that trend today?

Kazakh gold in rifle shooting

Incheon 2014 gold medal13:25 I am putting aside busking and traditional art and taking up a traditional air rifle for the time being, as Kazakhstan's Olga Dovgun grabs the gold with 456.4 points in the women's 50m rifle 3 positions competition.

South Korea's Jeong Mi-ra and China's Chang Jing take the respective silver and bronze medals, scoring 455.5 points and 446.2 points.

What are the attractions of Incheon?

13:16 Returning to my fairly fruitless efforts to find out more about our host city (see 09:52), there has been a breakthrough! My two volunteer friends have returned with a meticulously printed out sheet telling me about the Incheon Bupyeong Pungmol Festival taking place here over the weekend. They have even highlighted key words, as well as given a map of where a parade is taking place...

I feel an influx of final day shooting medals may prevent me attending tomorrow, but it is very interesting to read about nonetheless. Bupyeong is a district in north-west Incheon, with the festival established with the "purpose if establishing a sense of identity, inspiration and self-confidence", as well as to "vitalise a local economy". Rather similar then, to a city's motivation for bidding for major sporting events... The English on the information I have been handed is rather limited, but there seems to be a stage, busking, a food zone and a free market, with a particular emphasis on traditional art...

13:10 After a frantic day yesterday, it is refreshing that today is slightly more pedestrian so far. I can get used to spending a lazy morning writing about cricket and golf... You can add showjumping to that list as well, as the final day of three day eventing action begins, while we also have a final dose of shooting medals to bring you over the next couple of hours.

Taiwan flag13:01 Moving to a sport that has probably more in common with shooting than sepak takraw, and that is golf. Pan Cheng Tsung of Taiwan has continued his strong form in the men's event, although the door is open for someone to catch him up. After a six under par round of 66 yesterday, he shot 69 today to lie nine under par overall. Just one shot behind, after a superb 66 today, is Udayan Mane of India, although there are many more golfers still to come.

On the women's side Budsabakorn Sukapan of Thailand - Thai athletes seem to be everywhere at the moment - has shot a brilliant second round of 56 to take a three shot lead over Youth Olympic champion, Lee Soyoung.

12:53 Two very different sports that athletes from Thailand have been competing in today, requiring different components of sport. Focus, consistency, precision for one, and speed, power and flexibility for the other. I have to say, I think these Games have been a good advert for the sport of shooting. Lots of close competitions, and, unlike in some other sports, it is great to see how many top athletes are here despite the competition falling so soon after the World Championships.

North Korea confirm participation at Asian Para Games

12:41 Some interesting news is just coming through about North Korea. We've spoken a lot over the last week about how great it is to see North Koreans competing here, and succeeding here, on Chinese soil. Well, they will do so again next month at the Incheon Asian Para Games, taking place from October 18 until 24.

In an email to the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) dated Sept 25, NPC North Korea stated that its delegation would consist of 33 members. This marks the first time North Korea will take part in a multi-sport Para Games organised by South Korea.

APC secretary general Malini Rajasagaran has also revealed the team will compete in the four sports of athletics, swimming, table tennis and archery. NPC DPR Korea expressed hopes that the participation of the North delegation would contribute to peace and friendship, and the continuous development of Para sports in the Asian region.

APC President Dato Zainal Abu Zarin welcomed North Korea's participation, saying that sports is a powerful tool which could be used towards fostering and strengthening solidarity and relations amongst nations."We believe in our motto 'One Vision, One Mission, One Hope' in strengthening ties through the enhancement of Para movement and Games, regardless of our differences," he said.

China on target yet again at shooting range

12:34 All three members of the Chinese team are through to the individual final, with the trio joined by Vietnam's Thi Thu Hang Nguyen in the four women affair final a little later on at the Ongnyeon International Shooting Range today.

Incheon 2014 gold medal12:26 China have claimed yet another shooting gold medal, in the women's 10m running target team event this time, with a total of 1148 points, an Asian Games record. The Chinese team consisted of Li Xue Yan, Yang Zeng and Su Li.

Vietnam's trio of Thi Thu Hang Nguyen, Hong Ha Dang and Thi Le Quyen Nguyen won the silver medal with 1106 points and Qatar took the bronze. Qatar's shooters Amal Mohamed Mhamud, Saaida Humaid Taaeeb and Anisa Jama shot a total of 1,073 points.

Win for top seeded Thai in tennis

12:16 There's been a lot of attention on the men's tennis singles here in Incheon, following that story we brought you yesterday concerning players withdrawing due to an ultimatum from the ATP threatening them with a three-year ban and a hefty fine. We did speak to the ATP and they clarified their rules and stance yesterday, with more details in our article here.

No such problems however in the women's singles, and number one seed Laksika Kumkhum of Thailand has continued her campaign well this morning against South Korea's Lee Ye-ra in third round, with the world number 96 winning 6-1,6-1 against a player ranked 354th in the world.

Quote marks"Well, he's teaching me all the time. At home, we just sit down and watch television together. We're just like (any) normal father and daughter at home. Sometimes, we also fight." - Laksika Kumkhum on her relationship with her father and coach, Lersak.

Sri Lankan flag12:10 Victory for Sri Lanka in the cricket, meaning they win the women's bronze medal. They required 17.1 overs, so had 17 balls to space, to see off China in the third-place playoff. A good spirited performance nonetheless after a good tournament for the Chinese, taking five wickets in that run chase, which represented a pretty solid effort, I feel. The final is coming up later on, between Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Another gold for Qatar in shooting as 25m centre fire pistol event concludes

Oleg Engachev celebrates following his gold medal for Qatar ©Getty Images

Qatar flag11:59 I'm not sure where Engachev was born quite yet, although his name and the fact his listed languages are English and Russian suggests he has not spent his entire life in Qatar. But a magnificent performance nonetheless, as Qatar overhaul Kuwait in the "best performing Middle Eastern nation at Incheon 2014" stakes. This follows their gold yesterday in double trap team shooting, as well as their success in handball and basketball. A busy two days for the Gulf nation gets even busier, with this and the news about their 2019 World Championship bid we brought you earlier.

Incheon 2014 gold medal11:50 A second gold of the morning for China in the corresponding team event. Jin Yongde, Li Chuanlin and Ding Feng with a score of 1742-56x to push India into second place, while South Korea take bronze.

Incheon 2014 gold medal11:43 Another gold medal to report for Qatar in shooting! Oleg Engachev shoots 585 points to clinch the gold medal in the men's 25m centre fire pistol competition. Jin Yongde of China gains the silver medal , while Bin Gai of Singapore takes bronze.

Thai success in sepak takraw

Thai flag11:35 A good win for Thailand to report in the team regu event in sepak takraw. The four-time gold medal winners at the Asian Games, advanced to finals by defeating Malaysia 21-16, 21-10, 21-14, 21-11 in the semifinals at  Bucheon Gymnasium this morning. They will face either Indonesia or South Korea in the final.

11:28 Back to the sport, and there are raucous celebrations after China take a wicket in the opening over! Sri Lanka 0-1 chasing 66 to win. But the South Asian side are now beginning to get on top. The Chinese players all seem to have good technique, with some good "cricket-shots" - and by that I mean traditional strokes rather than flashy modern day ones - as well as excellent fielding. But they are just lacking that little bit of match nous that the Sri Lankans have, something that will clearly come with more experience.

Doha announce details of bid to host 2019 World Athletics Championships

11:20 Athletics action begins tomorrow here in Incheon. But some big news elsewhere in the sport in Asia, as Doha announce details of their bid to host the 2019 World Athletics Championships. Doha, who narrowly lose out to London in the race for the 2017 event, will face Eugene and Barcelona in a three horse race. A busy few days for Qatar in Olympic sport, that's for certain... Here is our full article.

The Khalifa International Stadium, currently in the midst of a renovation process, where action would take place ©Doha2019First gold of day seven goes...to China

Incheon 2014 gold medal11:08 Confirmation that China have one the first gold medal of day seven now. Chang Jing, Zhao Huixin and Chen Dongqi winning the women's 50m rifle 3 positions team event, with a total of 1737-69x points ahead of South Korea, with Kazakhstan picking up the bronze.

The three position, incidentally, encompass shooting at targets while kneeling, prone and standing.

10:57 Elsewhere, China, India, Japan and South Korea are through to the semi-finals in women's archery, while China have just managed a win over Japan in men's beach volleyball, by a margin of 21-12, 21,18

10:50 Things are not going quite so well for China in the cricket however. They score 65-6 in their allotted 20 overs, with Yi Miao top scoring with 26 off 47 balls. Sri Lanka will be heavy favourites to knock those runs off and claim the bronze medal.

Chinese flag10:42 Our first gold medal of the day will be won in a few minutes time, in the women's 50m 3 positions prone shooting event. And, surprise surprise, it is China who currently hold a narrow lead, although South Korea are close behind. I feel I have written that before somewhere...

Frustration for China in badminton?

10:34 A couple of sports stories from yesterday that we didn't really mention. It's been a surprisingly disappointing Games for China so far in badminton. First they lose that thrilling team final with South Korea and now they've suffered a couple of shock doubles defeats. In the men's event, Liu Xiaolong and Qiu Zihan lost to unseeded Indian pair Sumeeth Reddy Buss and Manu Attrir, before Olympic champion Cai Yung and Fu Haifeng were dispatched by Indonesian seventh seeds Pratama Anggar and Saputro Rian Agung.

Superstar Lin Dan very nearly went out as well. The defending champion
