Bruno Jourden has recorded a dominant victory at the EUROSAF Disabled Sailing European Championship in Valencia ©EUROSAFFrance have recorded a dominant display at the European Disabled Sailing European Championship in Valencia as the nation claimed a one-two finish on the waters of the Spanish city.

Bruno Jourden was a class above his opposition across the five-day competition as he finished with a total score of 23 across the 11 races to claim gold in the 2.4mR division.

The score was an impressive nine points clear of his team mate Kevin Cantin, who ended the Championships in second with 32 points.

Jourden took first place on four occasions, including the penultimate race, securing him the gold medal comfortably ahead of the 17-strong field in the event organised by the European Sailing Federation (EUROSAF).

The Frenchman's lowest finish throughout the competition was sixth, but as with sailing scoring, that result is dropped from the final score.

"I'm happy," Jourden said.

"It's been an intense week, where we competed at a high level.

"I like the city of Valencia and I leave with a good memory of it."

Cantin looked to be on course for gold in their early stages of competition as he took first in the opening three races.

A seventh and eighth place finish in the next two races dropped him into second as Jourden's began to find more consistent form.

Third place eventually went to Italy's Antonio Squizzato, who recovered from a ninth place finish in his opening race, which was eventually scratched out, to score 35 overall.

He was regularly in the hunt for first place, but could only muster second on four occasions.

The European Championships ran in association with the International Association for Disabled Sailing and saw 17 sailors from the 2.4mR class battle for prizes.
