French gymnast Kseniya Moustafaeva, a bronze medallist at the 2013 Mediterranean Games, is joined by Denmark's Beijing 2008 silver medal winning canoeist René Holten Poulsen and Serbian 3x3 basketball layers Dušan Domović Bulut, Marko Savic, Marko Zdero and Dejan Majstorovic.

The group, all expected to compete at the inaugural European Games, will feature in marketing campaigns around the continent over the next six months before the event is due to open on June 12.

More ambassadors are also set to be unveiled over coming months, it has been promised.

"The ambassador programme will see support for the inaugural European Games from high profile athletes from around Europe as well as Azerbaijani medal hopefuls, so we are confident it will be a success," said Baku 2015 chief operating officer Simon Clegg.

"I would like to congratulate the first of our international athlete ambassadors that have been selected and we are very much looking forward to working with them and the remaining ambassadors who will be announced over the coming months to help promote Baku 2015."

Today's announcement follows the unveiling of 11 Azerbaijani ambassadors last month, including two-time Olympic medal winning wrestlers Rovshan Bayramov and Mariya Stadnik.

Moustafaeva, the 19-year-old French star of Belarusian origin, expressed her excitement ahead of competing in a gymnastics competition featuring acrobatic and aerobic as well as artistic, rhythmic and trampolining competitions.

"I am extremely excited to be representing gymnastics ahead of Baku 2015," she said.

"With all five disciplines of gymnastics featuring at the European Games, I am sure it will be a wonderful event with the best athletes in Europe."

Poulsen, the reigning K1 500 metres world champion, added: "The canoe sprint competition at Baku 2015 is sure to be a memorable occasion and it is an honour to be selected as an ambassador for my sport for the first ever European Games."
