Delegations of the national basketball federations of China, France, Germany, Qatar, Turkey and the Philippines were welcomed to the "House of Basketball" by FIBA President Horacio Muratore.

During the visit, they took part in a series of meetings and held discussions, aimed at helping them to piece together and submit their bids to host the FIBA's flagship competition in 2019 and 2023. 

Through presentations and reports, including a look back at the staging of the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain, the representatives were given a complete picture of the economic impact that hosting the 32-team tournament could have on their respective national basketball federation, and on a larger scale, their country.

Each delegation also held individual meetings with specific departments, including sport and competitions, media and marketing, and communications, in order to get a full understanding of the requirements their bids must meet.

The FIBA is set to hold site visits in the six countries between January and March 2015, while Candidature Files must be submitted by the end of April. 

FIBA's Central Board are due to announce the host of the 2019 Basketball World Cup at its meeting on June 18 and 19.

At that time, it may also be decided which of the remaining countries is to stage the 2023 edition, or if the bidding process is to be extended.

On Tuesday (December 16) FIBA's Central Board awarded the 2018 Women's World Cup to Spain, choosing them ahead of their only rival, Israel.
