The Portuguese NPC is hoping to bring the 2015 EPC Conference and General Assembly to Lisbon ©CPPThe Portuguese National Paralympic Committee (CPP) has submitted a proposal to host next year's European Paralympic Committee (EPC) Conference and General Assembly in Lisbon.

The CPP are keen to bring the biennial event, due to take place from September 30 to October 4, to the Portuguese capital.

All EPC members are entitled to send delegates to the Conference and General Assembly, last held in Dublin in October 2013.

Denmark's John Petersson was re-elected unopposed for a second four-year term as President of the EPC in the Irish capital.

The former swimmer, winner of 15 medals in the Paralympics, was first elected in Vienna in 2009 when he replaced Spain's Enrique Sanchez-Guijo.

The first ever Congress of the CPP was held in Lisbon in October, aimed at promoting the development of physical activity, while developing a deeper knowledge both in theory and practice about Paralympic sport in Portugal.

Portugal made its debut at the 1972 Paralympic Games in Heidelberg, Germany, and has appeared at eight editions since then.

The country has won a total of 88 medals, 25 gold, 30 silver and 33 bronze, with its most successful Games coming at Sydney 2000, where it claimed 15 medals, including six golds.

Further information on the 2015 EPC Conference and General Assembly will be provided to EPC members as soon as a final agreement has been reached.
